Some people love them, some hate them, but the "reality" is that they are everywhere! So, I'm wondering, how do you feel about them?

What do you love? What do you hate? What is your favorite show? Least favorite? Why?

My favorite one is Rupaul's Drag Race. I love the glitz and the glam of it. Big hair, big shoes, and BIG personalities. And I have a thing for wigs, lol.

Least favorite is Survivor! Icky dirty people eating bugs, no thank you!

...I think I watch almost every single one on Bravo, LOL. Emphasis on almost.

I love if the show has a skill set or I take something from it.

Shows like Shear Genius, Blush, Kell on Earth, and RuPaul's Drag Race. I can take information from those shows and apply it to my life. Whether it be Personal/Professional motivation or just tips and tricks.

My least Fav type of shows are "American Idol" and "So you think you can dance". It's conveniently staged talent and the rest of it is staged comedy. Most of which happens to be negative especially during the "auditions"

I recently discovered Drag Race and I love it! I'm not a big fan of most "reality" TV, though. I used to watch Real World, but I stopped after season six or seven. It's just gross now. I don't even go near shows like Bachelor, Jersey Shore, Biggest Loser. I like Carnie's Wilson's show; she's funny!
Real or not, it's called Reality TV, so that's what we'll call it here too. If it was all real it would probably be boring. We watch fictional shows, sitcoms and drama, those aren't real. But reality tv has hit our society like a wrecking ball, and I'm curious what people think about it. And why it's so successful.

Cherry, you named the shows you don't like, said they were "gross", but why? What is it about them you don't like? What is it about Drag Race and Carnie's show that you do?

Elizabeth, you like shows you can learn from. That's awesome! I have to agree, I love watching shows that I can pick up a few make up or hair tricks from. But let me ask you, what is really wrong with staged talent or comedy? Shoot, staged talent is the point of the show, and it lets some very talented people show what they can do. People who may have never gotten the chance. Is that really bad? Staged comedy, well, isn't most comedy staged? As for the negative aspects, it's human nature to get some kind of pleasure out of others misery, shoot the germans have a word for it, Shadenfreude. And we watch Dramas, if we didn't like seeing other peoples misery those shows and movies would fail every time.

I'm not saying anyone here is wrong, or trying to "convert you" in any way. I just want more thoughts on it.
LMAO convert the wicked to the wicked! LOL

(I laugh at people who fall before I help them >:-P and watch "Hostel" when I am really really mad at the world)

Well I was...am..maybe.. into scripted "reality" dramas. (LOL) Like The Hills, The City, etc.. guilty pleasures.

(not too many dating shows. Though I did develop my own crush on Bret Micheals..which since I have gone into treatment for..)

But scripted talent shows like American Idol are more like cash machines than a media outlet for young talent. I mean if a band showed up (and I mean an honest to god "Pop" band came on the show) they would not have a clue what to do, infact the band wouldn't make it through auditions. That's why I don't like shows like that it excludes too many genres and people.

I honestly don't know how to explain why I think shows like the Real World, Jersey Shore, the Hills, et al, are nasty. I think it's because it's just a bunch of shiftless spoiled kids being overly-dramatic and fake. At least the people in the first few seasons of Real World had jobs and a life outside of the show. Everybody now just wants their fifteen minutes of fame and they don't care how they get there (well, as long as they don't have to exert any actual effort, like having talent).
I like RuPaul's Drag Race because it's entertaining and I think it's fascinating to see the transformation that takes place. Plus, I love the outfits! Carnie Wilson's show is fun because she's funny and seems like a down-to-earth chick and not just any old celebrity.
Two shows I love and hate at the same time: Rock of Love and Keeping up with the Kardashians. I guess those are my guilty pleasures. They're so entertaining, but I feel a little shameful after I watch them! :)
