I've been making little one inch buttons, the kind you pin to your clothing or bag, utilizing my pinup photographs of Colorado beauties. I want to sell them here and there and everywhere, but don't have any experience doing that. I've approached many local shops. Some buy them wholesale and others only want to sell them on consignment. These consignment arrangements can take anywhere from 20-50% of the sale. What consignment rate is average or reasonable? How do I get my merchandise to be sold in shops all over the US etc?
Best thing to do is first form an identity. Don't be just a photogrpaher that happens to make cool buttons. Build a brand for it then a profile online with samples. Make sure you have a solid release firm for each model clearing u to sell the work if you dint already. Once you appear larger than just a guy that makes buttons start networking here with all the amazing shops and virtual vendors we've pulled into 1 place. You could filter them out by using the advanced search option under the members tab.
by using the advanced search.
Thanks for the advice Daddy Cool. I'll need to incorporate some of those ideas.
I've been doing well and have my buttons for sale in 11 different shops all over Denver Colorado. I can hardly keep up with the orders :) I think I'll start making fridge magnets and coasters next!
I think that too will be a good move Jim. And while you're in the business mode, why don't you go ahead and email us some pricing on making custom ones: info @ pinuplifestyle.com
PS sorry for the shitty writing on my first post, I was on my iPhone!
Did you look at the AmericasMart in Atlanta GA. It is a great place to sale a large number of buttuns to different shops. Also a good friend of ours does a lot of shows there. Contact them info@myperspektive.com or call 404-457-8270 ask for Linda. She can help you to sale your buttons.
