Why is it so hard to find a paid shoot in Maryland?

I've been offered jobs in Cali, New York, and Texas. I can't afford to get to these places. How can I get myself out there more in my state? I've got a myspace and a facebook page. Any other suggestions?

Get a PL page, oh wait =) Time to start networking! Don't expect paid work until your portfolio is rock solid.

REALLY use PL:

Make sure your profile looks nice, your portfolio is easy to find, and that your bio reflects the honest, hard-working professional you are.

List yourself in the Directory.

Use the Advanced Member Search to locate photographers in or around your area.

Don't underestimate the power of building relationships with local talent that you believe in, which includes occasionally accepting TF* shoots or actually paying a (really good) photographer. This will give you some really great work to add to your portfolio which will of course increase your chances of getting paid work.
