I would like to start making my own clothes

because we all know how expensive pin-up can get.
and teaching Taekwondo doesn't necessarily pay the bill for wardrobe expenses, and niether does singing at a restaraunt.

so i want to start making my own pinup clothes, except for lingerie, lol, that i'll buy. but

i want to know some simple designs that you've seen and if you make your own pinup clothes tell me about it!! or if you have patterns id love if you could email me them!!

I've got as far as buying paterns and cloth but small children have thus far stopped it getting any further! My Mum used to make har dresses back in the 50's 60's so I'm ropeing her in! She says Simplicity paterns realy are simple and full skirts on dresses are easier than fitted. Hoping now schools back I might finaly get a dress made. Think I got a Butterick? patern too. Both companys do retro. Not much help I know but hope it helps!

thats a great thrifty idea, once i had this amazing dress, my favorite, so eventually it got worn out. so bad that i had to retire it, the slit in the back of the slim fitting bottom was up to my ass and the arm pits ripped clear through. so i cut it apart and used it as a pattern! so i can have that dress in any color or fabric i'd like. so if you have a dress ythat fits you well and you can bear to cut it apart, you will have that dress forever! good luck!

Maybe start with something simple, like a circle skirt and see how you manage. Then go on to something more advanced. Usually it is marked on the pattern if i's easy or advanced. Go have a look at your local department store or search google for patterns. You will find tons!

thanks! I figured id start with something simple, ive made dresses for me and my little sister, and i can take in and alter things. Ive started thinking about how much easier it would be, lol.

Oh, if you've made dresses already then you are quite advanced!
So just pick a pattern, pick the fabric and off you go! :)
Maybe try a halter neck pattern with a circle skirt. That's not too hard to make if you have a good pattern and with the right fabric will give you a very classy pin up outfit. :)

Skirt are really easy to start with!

Also, visit your local fabric store. Check out Vogue Patterns, they have a good number of old pattern re-issued. They call them Vintage Vogue!

Any fabric store has books and books of patterns, and they are pretty self explanatory. It's really fun making your own stuff, plus no one else has it :)

Just what I was thinking! Also look at some of the fabric pattern brands that to 'easy' 'starter' and '2 hour' patterns will you get going.

DiY PENCiL SkiRT 101 with SODA SHOP SUE:

take a skirt, lay it on the fabric, measure the skirt, draw on the fabric with chalk... cut out the design, sew the side together, throw a couple darts in the front and a few in the back ( on waste line).... fold down 1 inch, and sew the waste band..... finish the bottom of the skirt....

i make em fast and simple, by putting on over my head, and wearing them high wasted... personally i like them like this, with no zipper/openings.... pull up for going to the washroom, and take off/put on over your head....

made quick for a photoshoot when you dont have an outfit...
there are examples attached..
1.) red and black polka dot skirt, (also looks cute, not in a non-pinup outfit, over jeans, and under a longer t-shirt!)
2.) i added a skull/roses fabric to the center, (photo shoot for ZOMBiE GiRL HAiR ACCESSORiES)

Not a bad idea. I make my circle skirts like that, no zipper and over the head, but i never even though about making pencil skirts like that. Think I'll have to try it....

Hey!! Im doing the same thing!!! I have a couple of patterns already. Im starting out easy with pencil skirts then I will move to dresses and so on. I'm also doing it because I could never find things for my daughter and she always has to dress like mommy!!! Good luck in this girly!!! Maybe we can swap????

most definitely, lol, the crazy thing is that i really decided to get a jumpstart on making my pinup clothes and ive lost weight so

all the dresses and pinup outfits that i have i saved and took in

and then all of my other stuff that i never wear i finally packed away and am just going to sell on craigs list.

but i definitely will share ideas once i get started on this,

the purchasing of fabric is definitely the biggest thing for me right now, hahhaha

i just hate the cheap itchy fabric

cheap is good, itchy is not so much
