"We Are The New Vintage"
Ode to my IUD
I sit here, very satisfied from the Thanksgiving Dinner I spent all day preparing and I realize my appreciation for $500 insurance policy I have purchased for myself.
You see, I have "installed" within my body, the most valuable invention of the 21st century. I have an IUD. For those of you ignorant of its majesty, I will fill you in. An Inner Uterine Device (IUD) or Mirena (It's Brand name) is a placed inside of my uterus and when a foreign object (i.e. sperm) comes swimming through, looking for an egg, it is faces with destruction with the force of a AK47. It attacks and kills sperm--dead. They never had a chance.
Some of you out there may think ill of such a device, but I have had mine over two years without problems. I also help the world and myself but not creating any unwanted babies.
Don't get me wrong, I have a son and I love other children. But I love when other children go home at the end of the day. I do want a daughter but I think, instead, I'll just get a puppy. I can dress her up in pretty dresses and put barrettes and bows in her hair and pamper when I want, but not have to have the responsibility of a child.
That is the best choice for me. In a world of war, disease and famine, why give birth to a child who will have to fight for happiness from the day (s)he is born. Fighting racism, sexism, ageism, the class and caste system is not worth the trouble of being pregnant and miserable. There are so many children born into this world with no one to properly love them. Maybe I'll adopt one of them. Anything I do for them has got to be better than what they have seen of this world already.
Now don't get me wrong. There are a lot of people out there who have a lot of children and welcome the idea of more. I do not condemn you of this. In fact, I commend you for this. It would take a lot to be able to handle more than just my beautiful son Ethan. We have a great relationship and i believe it would be "diluted" if He had to share me with another child.
