(That cold finally caught up with me. I'm still smiling, though!)
1. My favorite animal is the giraffe. They are goofy, awkward and graceful all at the same time. They are unique and strange and wild. A bit like how I see myself, I guess.
2. I was a choir geek. I love to sing and I love music. I grew up in a musical family. My mom's dad played bluegrass on the fiddle and banjo and my grandma on my dad's side plays piano and sings. My dad was a choir teacher for 20 some years and while I was growing up he was lead singer/guitarist in a classic rock cover band called The Rotating Ventilators. Then after I graduated he formed a Celtic/Folk music group where he played the bouzouki and bodhran. Music is an important part of my life. I don't know where I would be without it.
3. I almost died after I gave birth to my son. Out he came and into emergency surgery I went.
4. I sleep with my mouth open a lot... I THINK I do at least, based on the fact that I wake up with
a large, wet spot on my pillow most nights....
5. Black has always been my favorite color. Contrary to the popular belief that black represents evil and all things ominous, to me it feels calm and peaceful; mysterious and intriguing. Not only does it go with EVERYTHING (especially white), but in physics (which I know nothing about except for this) it is the best absorber of light and when heated, the best emitter. This to me is sort of a representation of death and rebirth, another extremely cool concept that I appreciate.
6. My favorite books as a child were 'Goodnight Moon', 'Do Not Open', 'Jump Frog, Jump', 'The Tale Of Peter Rabbit and Other Stories' by Beatrix Potter and the 'Winnie-the-Pooh' books by A.A. Milne. NOW, my favorite children's books are 'Skippy John Jones', 'Don't Let The Pigeon Stay Up Late' and 'Olivia'.
7. I have a butterfly phobia. Growing up, I had nightmares about giant butterflies chasing me. Don't get me wrong, I think they are a beautiful phenomenon, I just don't want them anywhere near me. Maybe it's the way the pulsate when they move their wings. I don't know. I've yet to figure it out.
8. I love to cuddle, nuzzle and nibble. I would rather spend hours snuggling and making out than having sex. Not that sex can't be fantastic.....it can, as long as it's not JUST sex. There has to be emotion and compassion involved.. that's why it's supposed to be called "making love".
9. I had braces (on my teeth) from First Grade until my senior year in High School.
10. What I think fear feels like: Fear feels like a problem that can't be solved. A h*** without a bottom. Fear feels like a locked gate between myself and the rest of the world. It feels like an emptiness that can never be filled. It feels like being pinned beneath a heavy rock that I can't lift off of me. Fear to me, feels like waiting for someone to come home that will never arrive. Fear, to me, is not "no life after death" or "eternal damnation" but death without having lived a meaningful life.
11. I was born in Blue Earth, Minnesota at 3pm on Valentine's Day, 1980.
12. My middle name is after the main character in a science fiction book by Anne McCaffrey called Dragon Song. My parents were such hippies... I love them!!!
13. My favorite hairstyle was.. well, NO hair. When I was eighteen I shaved my head (eat your heart out, Britney). It was easy, I saved SO much money by not buying hair products AND I discovered that I have a pretty nicely shaped melon.
14. My first REAL job with an actual paycheck was at DQ, making frozen treats. I made $5.75 an hour. When I was younger, the neighbors used to pay me to take care of their pets while they were on vacation.
15. I got picked on all 12 years that I was in school but middle school was the WORST. During a particular shitty moment in 7th grade, one of the popular girls found out who I had a crush on. She pulled my shirt up over my head and drug me off the wrestling mat, my undeveloped funbags exposed to him and the rest of the gym class. ( I actually ran into the guy a few years back and the first thing he said was "Remember that one time in gym class.....". At least I made an impression of SOME kind!)
16. I'm Scottish/Irish on my mom's side and German/English on my dad's.
17. I love family heirlooms. I am lucky to have gotten the ones I have.... some Civil War medals, a wooden sea chest brought over on one of the first ships and a china tea urn with matching cups, all from my dad's side. Then a hand carved wooden mixing bowl and spoon that belonged to my mom's great, great grandma and some playboy glasses from the 50's and 60's that were my grandpa's on my mom's side as well. I know they were just material things but to me they are precious, they all have stories.... they are a part of my history.
18. My first pet was a lizard that I named Sonja. My dad's friend rescued her on his farm. She was almost chicken fodder. Actually, I don't even know if she really was a "she"....
19. One of my fondest childhood memories is lying with my mom and dad before bed while my mom read out loud to us. We went through JRR Tolkein's The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Two Towers. She read us the Chronicles of Narnia, Homer's Iliad and Odyssey and there were so many others I couldn't name them all.
20. My favorite TV show's as a child were Thunder Cats, the old 60's TV series of Batman with Adam West and the 1956 series of The Lone Ranger. Now I don't have much time to watch TV but when I do I am usually watching The Office, Life or 24.
There you go. A little more chipping away.....
