ECHO PARK, Calif. -- A manhunt is underway for the gunman who shot and killed a 4-year-old boy as he walked with his sister in a neighborhood just south of Angelino Heights, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

It happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of Court Street in the Echo Park area.

A witness says Roberto Lopez was walking with his sister to a community center two doors down from their home when he was shot.

Lopez was wounded in the upper body, and a car was seen leaving the scene, Officer Sara Faden of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section initially said.
