I'd like to do a calendar for charity and I'm curious what causes other people support. I like to give to the military and animals are close to my heart. So, if you will, please tell me your favorite charity and why you support it. Thanks!

I am for the Autism Society. My oldest son was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Another charity that is close to my heart is the American Cancer Society. The greatest man (my grandfather) died of lung cancer when I was a child and he was my world. So anything to help find a cure.
Almost anything having to do with Autism Awareness. My son has it, and I support anyone working to find ways to understand it better. I do not however support people looking for a cure, it's not a disease so it doesn't need a cure.
My favorite charities are animal charities - ASPCA, Humane Society of the United States, World Wildlife Fund and Pinups for Pitbulls. Mahatma Ghandi said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." They can't speak for themselves, so we have to be their voice.
My favorite charity is NCI ( National Cancer Institute) which does most of the research for cancer and makes sure the information out there about cancer is accessible to all people, ( especially with churches and minority groups). My mother works for them and is a cancer survivor as well and so is my grandmother. Another one close to my heart since it came into existences is Nashville Cares. They help with AIDS/HIV education, meals on wheels for those with HIV/AIDS, medicine, fundraisers for those who need the support and a lot more.
Hey!! How funny!!
I just started a charitycalenderproject (long word... LOL) on my side of the Atlantic
and the respons so far has been (to me and to my surprise) ENORMOUS and it's growing by the minute... :)
Feel free to check it out... All the info is listed as a topic in this forum.
Take care and good luck with your dream!
I know by my experience, so far, that it's worth it!!

I support our military men and women, children's health and education, pitbull rescue, local homeless shelters. I generally support the smaller organizations in hopes that each donation goes a little further towards the cause due to less overhead, advertising, etc of the well known huge organizations. A calendar is a great idea, please keep us posted on the progress.
Ok. I've narrowed it down to three charities: AfghanDogz through paws4pets.org; Homes for Our Troops, and Mental Health Care Inc. (MHC). Afghan Dogz is unique in that the dogs that are rescued from Afghanistan are trained and placed with Vets who suffer from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or Posttraumatic Brain Injury (PBI). Because the dogs have shared the experience by being in a war zone, it is thought that they are useful in helping soldiers adjust to life at home again. Homes for Our Troops builds homes for free for wounded vets who are severly injured, and MHC is also close to my heart because it's a local charity. My brother has schizophrenia, and has not yet learned to live with his illness. The state of Florida does suprisingly little to support the mentally ill, and this charity helps people to get the mental care they need whether they care pay for it or not. So I'm curious as to which of these charities anyone here could get behind. Which of the three do you like best? Thanks for the feedback!
