I don't know about you girls, but I have to work at keeping my body in shape. One thing I love about pinup is that it is full of real honest to goodness ladies and we are not all shaped the same. The perfect body is not required, but we all want to look our best.

The purpose of this discussion is to talk about exercise tips for the ladies targeting certain areas of our bodies!!! Let us know tricks you have learned or any crazy things you have tried in the past. :)

They were $100 at Nordstroms, but I had a gift card so I only payed $50. Worth every cent.

Oops *blushing* sorry for driving the discussion off topic!

What are your feelings about unprocessed sugars used moderately (like turbanado sugar)? Ive done this when I've done some baking and I have not felt bad or funny. I'm not an over consumer of sugar. I use stevia to sweeten my tea (a non caloric natural sweetener related to the mint plant). Sugar is sugar, but I feel that processing does alter things quite a bit chemically.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is all pretty bad for you, and fruit juices are as well. I think of it this way: how would these things appear in nature? We are essentially taking these things, processing them, concentrating a substance from them, removing all the fiber (which would serve to slow the digestion of the item), further refining them to a very concentrated substance and ingesting them. The further we get away from the natural whole food, the worse it is.

For instance in the case of fruit juices: we are meant to eat a piece of fruit, fiber and all. What we are doing when we drink fruit juice is removing the fiber and refining, and therefore are ingesting not just one piece of fruit but several multiples at once--and the part which is the most quickly absorbed into the body and bloodstream, having removed the part (fiber) which would have slowed the process. It is too much sugar for the body to be processing at once and the whole system (including the liver) is taxed and becomes inflamed---affecting many of the functions of the body and mental capacity.

Stevia seems to be fine as it's just an herb. I won't use any chemical sweetners though and it has been shown that some of these, like aspartame, actually stimulate the sweet craving.

Anyway, that's my take. I'm trying to stay away. Easy to do in my daily routine (after getting through the initial withdrawals!), not so easy to do at the holiday party I just went to where they had Hershey's kisses and M&Ms out in dishes on every table!
i do cardio and pilates!i do not have a slim body, i got very feminin curves but i think i still should keep myself in shape and these two are the best!
another thing i've tried was callanatics, i've lost more than 3 inch(used to have lot more curves ;) ) of my belly in two weeks!i love it,so if someone wants to loose abdominal girth ,do that!(sorry for my english =) )
Has anyone else tried callanetics? I looked it up and it looks interesting, but a little 80's. Just wondering if anyone else has had good results.
I have a question...I'm pretty good about working out every day and all that, but lately my cravings for sweets are insane! I keep giving in, but than hate myself afterwards! I try telling myself that as long as I am working out the same, or a little harder, I'll be ok, but how much of that is true?! If more is going in than what is going out, that's where weight gain is!!!

Any one try the Wii Active game?! I have access to it & just wonder if anyone likes/dislikes it!
Great Topic.

The main thing that I focus on are my abs, its a killer to keep them trim but it is the one area that bothers me the most.

I will give you ladies my daily workout.

I just have to let you know that you have to also remember that eating a healthy meal daily is very important. I'm sure you are well aware of that saying " You are what you eat?"

Here are 5 steps that come in handy!!!

1) Basic Crunch do 10 repetitions

Steps

*Lay on the floor with your back flat, your knees bend and your legs apart.

*Put your hands behind your head, just by the ears.

Raise your uper body forward and do the crunch.

I'm sure you are familiar with how it goes. I have just put the steps to make it easier. :-)

2) Crunch with your legs in the air do 15 repetitions

Steps

*Following the same previous workout, for this part all you have to do is raise your legs just a bit off the floor.

*Move from left to rigth by simply taping on your knees, with your elbow.

This part might be a bit tricky, because you have to balance your legs up in the air while taping your knees. I suggest holding your legs in something or having someone help you out.

3) Reverse Crunch do 10 repetitions

Steps

*Back flat, your arms to the side of your body while been lay flat on the floor, your legs together on the floor.

*Bend your legs towards your abdomen, without raising your arms from the floor.

*Maintain this position and start off by raising your your hip and having your knees touch the tip of your forehead.

This part works out good and you do feel it.

4) Elevation with your legs do 10 repetitions

Steps

*Back flat, hands below your hips (butt), and legs together and extended.

*Place your chin near your chest.

*Raise your legs up in the air staight directly to your chest or you can just aiming them to the celing.

*Lower your legs carefully without touching the floor, and raise them again.

Don't rush this step so you can feel it working out.

5) Last do 10 repetitions

Steps

*Lay on your right side, extend your right arm, and lay your head on it, place your left hand on the flor near your chest.

*Elevate your left leg to the air until you can no longer strech it.

*Lower your leg carefully with out touching the floor and follow the steps again.

*After working on your right side now work it on your left by also doing 10 repetitions.
Just follow the previous steps but do the opposite.

Last but not least I will be placing some healthy recipies that you can us to maintain your shape :-)

You might have low blood sugar or low serotonin (a chemical that makes you feel good). Or plain old stress. What I do when I get a craving is wait 1/2 hour and ask myself I still want it. Most likely, I don't. If I do and I'm absolutely sure I'm not going to feel guilty about it, I'll give in. If you don't feel like you absolutely have to have it, it's not worth it. For a healthier substitute, I like apples or bananas with peanut butter or kettle corn. Don't feel too bad about yourself. It's hard to be "good" this time of year.

It definitely is hard to be good this time of year...especially when you lack the self control ***coughMEcough***! Today is a new day and I'm sticking to your advice! Thank you :)

I agree with Timebomb Tessy, the variety of natural shapes and sizes is what makes us pinup girls "real". I must confess though, I have to work at staying in shape....and I do mean WORK!!! As I get older I'm finding it hella-hard to keep myself in shape!

I travel to Hawaii quite frequently and as a result, fell in love with the hula. On one of my trips, I decided to purchase an instructional DVD on how to do the hula just because I loved it so much and wanted to learn it. Little did I realize that this "cutsie wiggly dance" could actually be quite difficult and skilled. I started off with an easy DVD so I could learn the steps and hand motions and worked my way up to the more difficult DVD's. That was about 7 years ago. Now my friends and family constantly ask me to hula for them - my boyfriend even thinks I should be teaching classes at the local gym down the street! For anyone who doesn't like the boredom and monotony of a stair climber/treadmill or hates going to the gym (don't we all?) the hula is an excellent cardio workout. Mind you, the easy DVD's aren't as hard a workout but still beneficial and you really need to learn the steps and hand motions SLOWLY before you can benefit from the cardio of the more difficult DVD's. I recommend starting off with Hula for Everyone (easy) and working up to Hula for Health (more difficult).

I also try to do everything I can for my stomach....crunches, the Ab-Lounger, the Torso Track and a neat little thing called a fitness disc by Bally's which, with the right music, lets you "twist" your middle away. I also like to incorporate light weights and swimming into my routine from time to time. That's what I do but it's really all about a balance between a healthy diet and regular exercise. Having said that I like to cook and looooove to eat! But my man prefers me with a little meat on my bones, so I don't feel the pressure to be thin or to look a certain way. I do it more so for my health and longevity. I think all women are beautiful whether they're a size 2 or 22 and in my opinion there's no such thing as "the perfect body" (cause no one's perfect) however if you're looking to start an exercise regime or you're getting tired of your regular workout routine, try the hula - you'll love it!!

Added bonus - you can dress up like a pin-up hula girl and perform for your friends :)

So, Ladies this thread has been quiet for a while. Are any of you ready to recover from the holiday food-fest? Does anyone have any plans for changing health/fitness habits this winter? I'd love to hear from the rest of you and how the holidays went for all of you ladies. I myself did not really lose any weight but fortunately, I have not gained!! The bad thing is that a cold that I had last month has come back. Happy and Healthy New Year everyone!!
