"We Are The New Vintage"
Howdy All,
I haven't posted in awhile due to being super busy with photography, life, my day job, etc. I'm still shooting as much as possible and have been trying to refine my indoor lighting techniques. I have been using old school Norman strobes, but find that I don't always want the yellowish tint that they give photos. More recently, I have been using just the modeling lamps on my strobes and using my little Lumopro flash for fill and to pop the model off of the background. Shooting this way got me thinking about trying out some continuous fluorescent lighting - either with just a reflector or possibly coupled with a soft box. I have been looking at the Linco Flora setups - and like what I see so far ...but before I plop down $300.00 or so I'd like to hear from anyone that's using them. This all brings me to my question: What do you guys and gals prefer for indoor lighting - Strobes, Speedlights, or Continuous?

Let me know how the LED's work out. I've been wondering about those.
Strobe city for me, Speedotron blacks 2400ws packs with 102 heads are heavy and not very pretty, but can be consider vintage when compared to new strobe set ups. But Black lines are like old Ford trucks and keep working year after year.
all you have to do is a quick adjustment on your cameras white balance to lose that yellow tint... lower the Kelvin temp... til you get what you want ... EASY !

Thanks for the info! I too dislike flat lighting, which is why I use the speedlight to pop the model off the back ground. I don't hate the Normans I have, I just don't always want a yellow cast to my pictures. I have an enormous softbox that fits my Normans that I like. I may have to look into getting one that I can mount a speedlight to.
im using Nikon SB-700s and I loves deem!!!!! but i also have floresent 48inch soft boxes 1000W each and dialable down to 200W
Thanks for all the responses! It's true, the yellow tint can be adjusted out or removed in post, but the Normans just weren't giving me the type of light I was after. I traded off or sold all of it and picked up a pair of used Alien Bees (B-800.) When I'm out and about I use LumoPro flashes.
I just published a book on lighting that has 6 pages of Pinup Photography...go to http://tinyurl.com/PINUPLIGHTING
let me know what you think
I use continuous because I just love to see the light on the model. What do you models prefer. Does the strobe excite or distract??
I use a series of different speedlights and reflectors for bounce... My main light is a Nikon SB700 attached to an 18in Lumodi beauty dish or a shoot through umbrella... My other speedlights are Lumipro's, and I use them to either pop the model off of the backround, for a little extra fill light or to highlight a dark area in the image... OCF por vida!!! hehe
I'm actually experimenting with lighting - want to get my hands on some tube lights.
I mainly just use a flash and a softbox continuous and one other continuous. Lately one light broke so funds wise only have the softbox and flash, however did some experimenting with two LED torches and my flash for some low light gothic work - came out a treat.
I keep changing my lighting equipment. I mainly use Halogen fresnels inside these days and Alien Bees when I'm on location.
