I am working on a routine for a big show in march and i am having a hell of a time choosing a song! i do not do traditional burlesque so i want something edgy but not too gothy or obscure. need it to still sound burlesque-ish but not predictable. something sexy and sultry rather than kitchy or cutesy. any suggestions?

Hmmmm genre must be rock(ish) ?
Eartha Kitt...I Want To Be Evil...it's retro but has some dark lyrics.
How about Chris Isaak, "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing?"
Imelda May "Johnny got a Boom Boom?" It's kind of fast, but fun.
Cyndi Lauper did an album a few years back ...I think it was called "At Last". There are a few tracks you might consider. VERY Non traditional, but earthy beats but raw and sexy.
If you want something edgy but not too obscure you could always go for some alternative 80s tunes. There are some great ones out there that people would probably know but would still be a bit off the wall... maybe something by The Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen, Joy Division?
What I've found to be the easiest is to think of songs you love and create an act around the song. You'll be hearing the song A LOT during practice, and creating an act around a song is much easier than vice versa (I know this myself!) Raid your iTunes and find songs that you love, and the "Similar Artists" button on Amazon or iTunes is always a great gateway to other music you'd enjoy. And lots..and lots...and lots of song previews!
Dresden Dolls/ Amanda Palmer? I am working on an act to "Good Day" i think it is gonna be a lot of fun!
