So what would you say that a rockabilly pin-up should have in her closet? I'm new to this I would like to know. I plan on making all my new closet. Thanks

I love wiggle dresses (mind you I have to corset up under them LOL)
Vintage clothing from the '30s to the early '60s. Reference books on pinup girls. Pencil skirts. Circle skirts. Corsets and good foundation garments. Round toe and peep toe heels. Red lipstick. Black eyeliner. Good foundation makeup. Skinny capris in a dark denim. Make sure all clothes fit you well: not too tight (no muffin tops, no rolls because your bra is cutting in to you or your shirt is too tight...that happens on ANY size woman if it is ill-fitting) and not too loose or baggy. Bring a friend that will be honest with you about it looking nice on you. And remember to develop your own flavor. If you have an era in mind that you are in love with, add that element to the style. And remember that you do NOT have to spend buku bucks to dress nice. You can find a lot of things at thrift stores, estate sales and on ebay. I even have found great retro inspired clothing at urban wear stores and stores like Ross, Wet Seal or Charlotte Russe. Forgot to add that a Little Black Dress is always an essential regardless of style. As well as a white blouse and black heels.
Pencil skirts, round toe pumps, cardigans, red lipstick, hair flowers.

I'm sure there's a ton more but it's early and I need tea before my mind will work.

Good luck!
Thanks a lot! I can't wait to get started on sewing all those new clothes.

yes, alot of vintage is the way to go,ebay and the rose bowl in pasadena a great way to find those great items,i say becareful when you go to the mall and buy from forever 21 and stores like that, even stuff like stop staring clothing and my baby jo stores or companies like that are cool but beware that dress you like and wear it to a big event, you could see 10 other girls wearing the same dress!! when i go to viva las vegas i like to keep it all vintage,at least at night when it's time to party!! xoxo
I'm planning on making all my clothes. I don't have the money for it now and I have a chest full of fabric that I can use. Thanks for the tips.
Dark denim capris and cuffed jeans
cardigan sweaters
girlie work shirts
pencil skirts
circle skirt
wiggle dresses
"50's style" circle skirt halter dresses
peep toe heels
converse

I think that would be my most BASIC list. Can't wait to see what you make!
At estate sales you can find a lot of vintage fabric from the 40s and 50s. Most women sewed back then, and a lot of them saved their fabric. A lot of vintage inspired clothes don't look right made with modern fabrics. Use Vintage patterns if you can. You can get those off of Etsy and Ebay, and again, at estate sales.

Estate sales is also a great place to pick up vintage dresses. I have scored some really great pieces at estate sales for very cheap (like $4 a dress, $2 a sweater...gloves less than $1 and mid century jewelry for a couple bucks).

One other thing, don't plan on having this wardrobe overnight. It takes years to build a good wardrobe in any style, and possibly longer when you are building a wardrobe of a certain era.
I think this is a great discussion. A must read for any girls starting out in this scene. So let's make it as informative as we can. This thread needs some pictures!
