If the curls come out too poofy, try making less pincurls with more hair rolled larger. This would also give you more time with your little one. :) Also try running your fingers through your hair before you brush it. Then brush it with a large tooth comb or brush with wide bristles. If the curls start to fall flat, just twirl a piece hair around your hair to give it bounce again.
Remember the directions the pincurls are going, how they will fall and make them all fall the same way. Does that make sense? Each side (of your head) should have the pincurls all rolled in the same direction. This will help it lay in that coveted shape when your done and also make it less poofy. If the hair is rolled away from the face, it will look like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz or Farrah Fawcett. If the hair is rolled towards the face, it will look more like Dita's shape or a more 30's-40's sultry look.
Do you use product before? I like to use setting lotion. You only need a little bit. If you use too much, your hair will become too heavy to hold shape and can end up looking greasy. You can also make your own setting lotion by mixing equal parts water and gel. Never use hairspray before taking the rolls out because if you do, it will rip your hair when trying to comb and shape it and only make a mess. Spray a foot away from your hair when done styling.
Good luck, I hope this helped. I can't wait to see your finnished product!
xoxo
