I am new to pinup lifestyles and was hoping you would share some ideas on cute easy hairstyles. I searched the Internet however they really do not describe any "how to's".

My hair is only shoulder length right now but letting it grow long. I would really appreciate some ideas :)

Thank you!!!

YouTube has a ton of tutorials Maila Harlow is great, so is ilovegerardo, and LisaFreemontStreet has a lot of ideas. If you want a book, Lauren Rennell's Vintage Hairstyling is one of the best books available!!

Good Luck, doll!!

hi Mindi!
i'm totally in love with wet pin curls at the moment my hair is about the length you mentioned. curls and victory rolls are a great way to get a nice old fashioned look. i recently just bought a book on vintage hairstyling.
tho the web site does have a bit of a How-to bit.

I agree the vintage hairstyling book linked above is great. One thing though when you get it take it to an office supply place and have it done with a spiral binding. Makes it so much easier to work with while you are styling your hair!!! cost less then 5 bucks. the same people now have one on Vintage makeup, I'd like to get that one too.

Thank You so much. Great ideas. I am going this weekend. And I thought I was the only one LOL

Hi,

Well first of all, you need the right haircut to be able to do most vintage hair do's. It's called a middy haircut, which is a made with rounded layers, so the hair makes an s shape at the bottom.

After that it's all about learning how to curl it to achieve the period look.

Thanks for sharing everyone! I love to try different vintage hairstyles but had a hard time finding a source :)
I agree and am glad to know I am not alone :) I really appreciate all the great ideas and tools to help me.

Thank You!!!

As everyone here has said, you tube is the best place to look. Find a style you like and then prectice till you master it. Then use that as your "signature" look while you learn more.

Also, don't forget to check out the Dollhouse and our very own Dollhouse Kitty.

I have been researching the MIddy haircut, it seems really short! I haven't been able to do any kind of vintage hairdo whatsoever on my hair. That is probably because it is too long, it touches the top of my bum! I wouldn't mind tryin the haircut, but I don't know how it would do with thick, coarse frizzy hair! I am afraid to cut it so short. Do you think the Middy haircut would still work for my hair??

Any suggestion on this?? I don't mean to highjack this thread by any means! (sorry Mindi Von Love!!) I have just been curious! :)

I have thick hair with wide curls. The layers sure helped to thin my hair out a little, so it gives my curls more definition and it's not as much weight on my scalp.

Period hair in those days was about keeping hair sholder length or shorter to show support for the war efforts.

My hair is halfway down my back in it's brushed out form, my cut is called "The Vixen." It is in the style of Veronica Lake's long hair.  That is about as long as vintage hair got in that time, super long hair was popular in the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

I found the most beautiful hair salon in Santa Ana, CA named C'Salon that does a great job on my hair. Rosa gives the most amazing scalp massages! You can't beat the complimentary wine, tea, water, champagne. Mention you found the salon on Yelp and the wash, cut, and styling is under $40!

Thanks Kiki! I found a hair diagram for a haircut called "Femme Fatale". It is significantly longer than the "Middy", It is 6 inches instead of 4 at the longest part in the back. I need to find a great place to cut my hair first, I am sooooo scared to cut my hair because in the past I have had so many horrible haircuts! That's why my hair is so long now! :p :)

I will definatelly give my hair to Locks of Love!! I will need to do research to see what I need to do. I will get back to y'all when it is all said and done :) I am also going to look for "The Vixen" haircut diagram!! That sounds good too :)

Thanks again!! :) :)
