More evidence of 50's fashion in the mainstream... as if we needed it!

There was an interesting article in my local paper today featuring 1950's fashion for women. It won't contain anything that you don't already know, but interesting anyway...

Its a fairly good article.

what made me laugh was a comment by another reader:

"Every-one on a diet for that cinched-in waist. With obesity at an all time high, I don't think we'll be seeing much 50's on the streets. You had to get up early to get all that make-up on before work. I think it'll be a short-lived fashion."

I don't think it takes me more than 10min to do my make up. 30min if you factor in hair too

I keep getting the "your so in fashion right now" comment. People just don't realise it's not for fashion, I do it as a lifestyle. as I'm sure most ladies on here do

anyhow, Thank you for the article
The article is a bit behind the trend.

Fall 2010 Ready To Wear, the person who really went for the 50's look was Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton.

It felt like he raided the designs of Huber de Givenchy

For Spring 2011 Ready To Wear, we've jumped to 1977 and it's the sheer, drapping and patterns. Examplified by Lanvin.

And what is Jacob doing at Louis Vuitton? Chinoiserie.

The "Wasp Waist", started by Dior's New Look, was achieved of some serious boning in his dresses.

But more often the look was achieved by serious waist cincher type girdles

My mother said that she was able to get down to a 22 inch waist with these types of girdles.
Wow. For the first time in my life I'm actually 'in fashion' haha
Yep, the 50's are back for a bit, good for us because that means we'll be able to find clothing and accessories easily! And it will go out of style soon, and we will still be loving it.

One thing is for certain, after reading this article, I'll never buy anything from Jayson Brunsdon. He was rude and condescending, saying that "fancy dressing is awful" people who love the full look are costumey, and pin curls are horrible. That is nothing but rude and bad manners.

I honestly think the best part of the article was this:

Yeah its a fairly stock and standard piece of journalism to be honest... ticks most of the boxes for skimming the surface of what we're all about... and yes the picture is the best bit! LOL

It was taken at the Rose Seidlers House a delightful piece of Mid Century Modern right here in NSW Australia - http://www.hht.net.au/museums/rose_seidler_house I would think at the annual fifties fair which is a great day. Check out the link for images of that.

I think that soon the fashion industry will soon leave the fifties alone and move onto another _____ties leaving you wonderful ladies to do what you do so well AND giving you the opportunity to pick up some not so vintage vintage!
Woohoo! I'm "in fashion"! lol
Chest bump ...whooo hoo we're in fashion!

I'm not being funny, but I swear they've been saying the 1950s style is back in fashion for the past 5 years. Anyone else found this?
