Hello, I joined this site this morning and recently I've fallen in love to the whole pin up/rockabilly look. I am completely new to this whole thing and was wondering if maybe someone could help me. I know some of the basics to a pin up/rockabilly wardrobe but, I was wondering what do you wear that's more casual? Especially for tops, because I know rolled up capri's and skinny's an high wasted shorts works but I'm not entirely sure what to add to my wardrobe shirt-wise other than cardigans. Then I had another question for those who do the pin up pictures, I've never modeled in pin up clothing before, and neither do I know anyone who actually can do those types of pictures.. Any suggestions or advice on how to get started? Or maybe a link to a guide to getting started maybe?

Right. Yeah, I looked around and there's quite a bit car shows around here I didn't even realize. And really? for free? Well, I live in Michigan, so NY is a bit of a drive :P, but it doesn't really matter only because my boyfriend and I were talking and he doesn't feel comfortable I attend photo shoots, at least not alone because we realize how dangerous they can be if not done safely. Plus I've searched and seen that photo shoots are actually a lot more expensive than I thought. But for sure I will be trying to go to a few car shows this summer and hope someone will do pictures, if not I was going to see if my friend would come anyway to take some pictures just in case there isn't any photographers interested.

I wouldn't bother with the huge corporate shows. I would stick more to those that have 100+ cars. They seem more personal than the mega shows. Do a search for car shows in you're area. The clubs here in Oklahoma have a site they list them on. Something like this. http://slauener.tripod.com/id7.html

I'm not sure what state or area you're in, I know a great photographer friend up in Hudson Vally NY, does total free shoots and he's really good, I mean really good. Here in the closest little town to me, they have a meet up every Thursday afternoon at the Braums Ice Cream place and about once a month at a Sonic DriveIn in Tulsa. Probably 30-40 cars. Great place to network with them and get to know people in that circle. Pretty much you want to market yourself in this personae. I would say do the Craigslist list thing and bring a friend and start showing up ready to shoot! There are photographers out there looking to shoot free, to help build their ports also. Model Mayhem is another great place to network, but it's more commercial and some of the models and photographers can be rather, well, rather eccentric. Don't get discouraged if things start slowly. Just make sure to approach this safely.

you seem to be on right track

Yep, TF shoots. He is mainly working on different techniques and over the last two years has gotten quite good. He also post the images and the girls download them for their own portfolios. But he's a humble kind of guy and just enjoys shooting. I agree on the alone part! Always bring a friend along. I'm so with you on that. Never ever meet someone new, alone. Always public and if you don't feel comfortable for any reason, walk away. I wasn't sure of you're locale, that's why I mentioned him. I thought of another way to make this happen this morning, contact some of the local car clubs and lay out what you would like to do, I'll bet they would go for it. But whatever you decide, I think you'll do great, just go at you're own pace. I like you're idea of a friend doing some pics for you. That would be great to get some images to post up. Looking forward to seeing some!

Right, I like the idea about the car clubs, it's definately something to think about. I really apprechiate you trying to help me, you've been very helpful :). And yes, I'd like to get some pictures up as soon as possible. But I'm also on the plus size side, which I don't mind at all, but I used to be well over 300 lbs, so I have excess skin and some celulite on my legs but I am currently going to the gym and hope by summer they'll be gone so I can start my pictures :)

Congrats on the weight loss! You're more than welcome on the suggestions and I wish you the most sincere  best of luck. I respect the determination I hear in you're voice. I personally think you'll do great, don't forget about us when you're famous Mira.

XD Thank you! I hope I do well, but I don't think I'm going to do it all professionally I think for now I'll stick to it being a hobby of mine so I can do it for the fun of it because I love it.
