"We Are The New Vintage"
Hello all! my first post here. :> I've loved pinup style since I was 15, but never really could dress that way due to well. money and laziness. I'm 20 now and really want to honestly look rockabilly-pinup style all the time.. but heres my dilemma, I have the hair and makeup down(Once my hair grows back out..) but I am utterly shapeless and quite frankly feel WAY too fancy in dresses and skirts.. even 'casual' ones. I've recently decided I'm much more a 'jeans and a t-shirt and heels' rockabilly type... but it kinda makes me sad!! I love the whole pencil skirt and button up bad girl look along with more authentic 'sweet' 40's dresses.. i find I just look strange in more tailored things....
So to all of you wonderful ladies; do you wear the type of things you model in on a daily basis? Do you still dress 'pinup' when not in front of the camera? What do you wear on a daily basis?
Any one else have the issue I have? I still havent gotten to modeling really, but I'd like to build a wardrobe of stuff i can wear :( any advice ladies?

I have the same issue! I have [and love the way I look in] pencil skirts and a-line dresses, but my main form of transportation is a motorcycle/scooter. So, that makes it hard for me to wear the dresses and heels while still being able to ride comfortably and safely.
What I normally end up doing is wearing dark denim cuffed skinny jeans or capris with colourful flats. As for tops, I like to wear cami types with high wastes and accent the waist even more with a belt. I throw a short sleeve cardigan over it on occasion too, depending on what I'll be doing that day. Also, a belt can be thrown over any plain 'ol t-shirt if it matches right, just to give a little more shape.
As for my hair and make up, I think it's nice to always keep that the same, like you said you already have down. If I'm leaving my hair down, I make sure I pin back at least a little of it to look more rockabilly, and I always add a headband. If I'm pulling it up, I wont leave the house without a bandana!
"It's not a trend, it's a lifestyle" Those people who have been around here for a while should remember that one, and it's as true now as it was then. I dress pin up/rockabilly/vintage/psychobilly in one way or another every day. I don't always wear my fancy dresses with gloves and petticoats (although I love them), but my wardrobe is full of the essentials. Once you build up your closet it's easy to dress this way every day, it just takes some time.
Here are a couple of threads that might help a bit.

I rarely get the chance to wear pencil skirts and pretty dresses outside of shoots because I don't drive, so I have to walk or cycle everywhere :( given the choice I would wear pencil skirts more, they look great with some cute flats and a clingy little top.
For now though, this is my daily wardrobe:
A pair of skinny jeans (I have pale ones, black ones, grey ones, dark blue ones - I definitely advise buying a few pairs!) They always look great and I love how they cling to my legs, casual sexyness at it's finest! If it's warmer I wear high waisted denim shorts or capris.
As for tops, nicely fitted colourful halter tops and boob tubes I find are a much better option to t-shirts, because they look feminine, make you feel cute as hell and yet they're nice and comfy and not too dressy.
With shoes, if it's nice weather I wear flat ballet shoes or cute white canvas pumps like these http://www.mamstore.co.uk/templates/imagedirectory/Jacobson_Whiteca... they're really comfy and look adorable with shorts or skirts. If it's cold and rainy I wear my flat black biker/worker style boots - more punk rock than pin-up admittedly but they look pretty bad ass with a bandana and skinny jeans!!
Hair wise, generally I just leave my hair down and put in a cute Alice Band/ribbon, or I pin pieces of it back and stick a pretty hair flower/bow in there, or if I'm feeling truly lazy I just pin the whole lot up and wack on a bandana! I have bandanas in pretty much every colour, my newest and favourite is this gorgeous purpley one I got off Ebay. Oh, and another cute way to wear hair is in pigtails, particularly if your hair's longer!
As far as make-up goes, I always do my cats eyes (with added black eyeliner underneath because I'm a fan of the slightly gothic look) and fill my eyebrows in nice every day. Even if I'm just sat at home in my jim jams, I put my face on! More often than not I wear red or deep pink lipstick, but sometimes if I don't feel in the mood I just tinge my lips with red and put strawberry lipbalm over the top.
On nights out I like to wear wiggle dresses and heels, again I just love tight fitting clothes, they feel fantastic!
I think it's all about just finding your own style :) I don't think I'll ever be the type of gal to wear petticoats on a daily basis, I have far too much of a tom boy in me, I love my cars and my rock music and my motorbikes, and the whole cute little 50s rock chick look suits me and my lifestyle much more than the full 50s housewife thing would, I stick to what I feel comfortable in, not what people expect me to dress like.

I remember there used to be a "what are you wearing?" post a long time ago. I loved seeing everyone's daily take on "pinup " & retro. :)
In addition to one's above, here's a couple more. I can't find the general "what are you wearing" one, so maybe we should start a new one!

Thank you for posting this.
I've loved pin up and vintage style since I was a young girl, and I did take ideas from the 1940s and 50s and incorporate it into my wardrobe.
But since I joined the education department at university I was told my outfits were too fancy (apparently blazers are too dressy!) so now I'm trying to rework my wardrobe- without loosing my style.
