What's Shakin?

Hey everyone, my name is Ken. I am new to PL.

 

I have been involved in photography for over 20 years. In the last 3 years digital has taken over and equipment is at a reasonable price. So I have taken the plunge...Now I am hooked, and I will succeed.

 

I grew up and went to High School in Anaheim, Ca during the 80's, partying with Gwen Stefani at Keg parties and Social D at free gigs at Fenders and CSUF. I moved to San Fran, Ca 13 years ago and have called it home since. Pin up and punk rock have always had my interest.. From the days I saw my first Playboy, to when I thumbed  my grandfathers Gill Elvgren pin up calendar. I could never draw worth a s*** but photography gave me a window into an art I saw as classy and elegant.

 

In HS I used a Canon AE-1 that my father had bought for family photos. Taking it to school and loading it with hand rolled B&W film was so cool. We shot landscape and our friends and learned about ASA and F-Stops often with f***** up results, but it was fun, we were young.

 

Our prints were grainy black and white and lacked focus, meaning and contrast. We kept trying, learning as we f***** up. I got my first tattoo at 16 at Good Time Charlie's Tattoo Shop in Anaheim. I gave Charlie a Fake ID i bought at Melody Meats in Santa Ana. My 1st tattoo was a Bald eagle with "America" inked under the feather. I was inspired by Mike Ness of Social Distortion and looked up to everything Social D..This is where my fascination with Pin up and Rockabilly began.

Yeah, those days were great, weren't they? Got to see Bad Brains and Social Distortion in '88, and was never the same. Hope to see some of your work on your page.
