Just my luck, I got a slipped rib when I need to be practicing for my return to the stage down in Tucson. May 1 is D-Day and I'm terrified! We have some well-known performers coming, including perhaps the most famous emcee of them all!
My rib is causing such great pain, it wakes me up when I move during the night and I can't practice.
Why not? Well, I incorporate hoop dancing (as in, with a hula hoop) to my acts. That's kind of my schtick as a performer, I'm the hooper. I don't know if I want to typecast myself and always hoop since there are only so many things you can do while peeling off articles of clothing...but it's my bag right now.
And as a hooper...a rib injury/mishap is the LAST thing I need right now. Knee pain, elbow pain, etc. I can deal with, but since my hoop presses over my torso, it really affects how often I can perform.
I'm hoping it goes away soon, so I can get back to practicing since it's been two years. Luckily I remember most of my act and my costume is done. I'm performing an act I put together for Halloween two years ago.
Here's is a photo of me in my costume during our Jerome Halloween kids parade this past year (2009).
I'm on Tim's trike...which is fantastic. He's the sweetest guy and the kids loved the bike! I want to jazz up my costume a bit. That's this weekend's project. The tiny squares on my bra and underbust are actually small mirrors. I use a strobe light during the chorus of my music (Bjork's Enjoy) and it reflects off the mirrors and the mirror tape on my hoop.
Send me good vibes...this rib needs to heal...and it needs to heal NOW because my performance is sooo close!!! I don't want to disappoint my gals who haven't seen me in a few years, nor let down the guest performers we have!!!
