I wanted to take a minute to address the importance of pet safety over the holidays with all the tempting treats and other things that could get your pet into trouble over the holiday season. I had a bad experience on Sunday and hope that writing about it will make others think so it wont happen to them. As many of you pet lovers will do over the holidays, you will probably go visiting neighbors like I did this weekend and bring your pets to visit too. Some people you visit may not have pets and may have dangerous things out that your loved one could get into. I was visiting neighbors this weekend and didnt think twice to ask or check around to see if their house would be safe for my pet. Big Mistake. They had been having mouse problems and had set out mouse poison in a dish of peanut butter, that of course my pup Ellie quickly sniffed out and ate up. Luckily for her and for me, the neighbors rememberd it was out just as she was finishing it off. I immidiatly took her to the Emergency Vet clinic and they pumped her stomach and took her overnight. She is appears to be doing well now, but I still have to keep a close eye on her and she has thrown up a couple times, so she may not be out of the clear yet. This is just one example that shows how things you automatically take for granted, can be a cause for graveity and concern. Please watch out for you loved ones this holiday and ask the right questions before you take your pets holiday visiting! I dont want you to have to spend your holiday morning the loss of a pet or in the pet hospital like me. If this blog can save anyone else from having to have their pet go through what mine did...it will be worth it!
XOXO,
Ms. Niki
