"We Are The New Vintage"
I have added 3 new maternity dresses to my store for you delightful pregnant ladies. http://frenchiestiles.etsy.com
Being 28 weeks pregnant myself, I've encountered frustration trying to find cute clothing that is comfortable to wear and doesn't make me look like a granny. So since I already make regular dresses, why not make maternity as well? I will continue to offer maternity clothing even after my baby girl is born. So this isn't a one off thing.
I've noticed certain design flaws with regular maternity that I've been very surprised to see no one trying to fix. Issues such as giant armholes, no space for big boobs even though the dress might be an XL, nice patterns (come on little flowers?), nice colours (pastel is reserved for bathrooms in my opinion), or swimsuits with absolutely no fun patterns. Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you aren't a fun and sexy woman anymore. To the contrary! Those hormones can really do wonders on your hair, skin, nails, and libido. And though you may not feel uber attractive while that wee one grows, doesn't mean you should give up entirely on your wardrobe and makeup for 9 or more months. I realised very recently that I'd become one of these people.
I have felt unattractive this entire pregnancy. It's kind of a shock to see your skin riddled with stretchmarks where there used to be none. Gaining weight at a tremendous speed without changing the quantities you eat. That body goes through a lot of intense changes, and works double time. Then with the heat everything feels hot and sticky and just plain uncomfortable. Not a fun time. I realised I was just trying to find stuff that fit, covered my belly, and was cool and comfortable. I started wearing stuff that I usually wouldn't have touched with a 10 foot poll. I kinda went minimalist on my makeup and my hair seemed pretty dead (not lustrous like some) so tied up it went. So I let my roots get to 2 inches, my bangs too long to not get into my eyes, and I started focusing on everything else but myself. Big mistake, since with all that the self-esteem goes down the toilet big time. Just ask my fiance. He tried to make me feel better by saying out of the blue that my hips will probably be wider after birth and will give me even more of an hourglass shape. A total plus for the pinup look if you ask me and then I started seeing things a little differently. A man's perspective can make a huge difference when feeling down. I mean you are trying to look good for him as well as yourself after all.
What finally pulled me out of it? Making these maternity dresses. Seeing plain plain plain maternity clothes that don't inspire. You can wear leopard print when you have a bun in the oven, why wear bellyband jeans and t-shirts? Colored my hair (which you can do during pregnancy, however hair chemistry changes during pregnancy so I do not recommend permanent colour), bought some new makeup (mainly MAC concealer cause those dark circles aren't going away just yet), and cut my bangs. Yes, makeup takes a little longer but it's worth it if it makes you feel better. And feeling good is essential if you aren't having a fun pregnancy. Some women love it, some don't.
Pregnancy is the hardest job your body will ever have to do so dress it up and ditch the sweat pants.
