How the endless trend influenced bingo and fashion

Vintage has always been considered as a continuous trend. It has influenced the world of fashion and even the old-fashioned game of bingo. The Which Bingo Awards nominee is also a proud sponsor of The Charity Dreamgirls, a voluntary group based in the North of England whose name was inspired by the Broadway musical Dreamgirls set in the 1960s. The group aims to promote awareness and interest in lesser-known charities through a series of events and publicity opportunities. 

An article from BBC News said that the items from the 1950s in particular are still the biggest attraction for people seeking an escape from economic doom and gloom. According to Colette Costello, Manchester-based designer who makes clothes and bags based on designs from the past, there is a certain and unique enthusiasm about the 1950s. “After the war people didn't take things too seriously - we look back on it as a more fun time,” added Costello. 

1950s Dresses

The 1950s clothing experimented with various styles and silhouettes. The dresses of the 1950s are rounded, with ballerina length hems and cinched waists for that flimsy, womanly hourglass look. Another design is the sheath dress which made the desired silhouette of the decade. Its form-fitting material is focused on natural curves. Ornate necklines also became a favorite as many dresses were created with jeweled or Peter Pan collars, or low-cut necklines for a feminine touch.

According to Retro Waste, many 1950s dresses were called “circle dresses,” because they make the shape of a perfect circle. Some pieces are pleated and others have large bows at the waistline. Among the popular prints during the 1950s were floral prints, plaid, polka dots and stripes. For daytime dresses, the hemline stopped around the knee, while evening dresses were usually long, flowing and to the ankle. The 1950s were a pretty decadent decade so the most luxurious fabrics like satin and silk were preferred.

1950s Tops

The 1950s tops aspired to provide women a lady-like silhouette as opposed to the sharp lines of 1930s clothing. During this era, women frequently sported jackets with peplum waistlines to pinch the silhouette and give the figure a more rounded look. They also paired these jackets with sleek skirts. Collared tops and loose-fitting printed tops were also famous and were made of easy-wash materials. These loose-fitting blouses are paired with a fitted skirt to give the outfit a fashionable balance.

1950s Bottoms

Popular styles of pants, shorts and skirts during the 1950s paved the way for a various selection of mix and match outfits. The sleek pencil skirt that we wear today came from this era. At the time, it was often matched with a loose or a peplum blouse. During this decade, ankle length skirts with volume were also favorites.

People who are into casual sportswear wore ankle length pants, Bermuda shorts and pedal pushers. They are paired with simple, patterned blouses or knit tops for a casual and stylish appearance. These trends had an enormous influence on modern fashion, for anyone can wear pants of any length and can choose as the mood or weather changes.

1950s Shoes

We can acknowledge the 1950s for inventing one of women’s most favorite shoes –the stilettos. These sexy, slim-heeled shoes instantaneously brighten up an outfit, with an extra dose of glamour. Women replaced their bulky shoes from the 30s and 40s with sleek heels instead. You can pair your favorite stilettos with a matching, curve-hugging sheath dress for a bold 1950s evening look. Casual oxfords or saddle shoes likewise become famous during the 1950s, especially among young girls.
