So ok during the 10 months I went without a job I needed to find a hobbie. Something that would take up my mind & body away from reality. So I decided that painting would be a good option, one day I went to Michael's I bought a stencil, paint & brushes that were on sale. Got home & let my imagination flow. I actually made 2 paintings my koi fish, and a geisha. My fiance & best friend have said pretty good things about these paintings... However I'm not sure if they are trying to be nice so I would like some brave volunteers to be honest & critique my paintings. Greatly appreciated *Y VON DITA*

i think they are really great. neet style. kind of cartoonesc/tattoo like. its neat. i love the cherry blossom tree flowers. i do think the black outline on the fishes body and not on the fins makes him look more like a tadpole, leaving the fins in the background like they are unattatched. but other than that, i think they are alot of un and a neat style

I'm a fairly accomplised painter - I can say that I think that you are off to an amazing start! It is really rare to see a new painter with this creativity, Normally, I see a lot of gathering reference photos and painting line for line - don't get me wrong it's a good exercise. I really am digging the fish and I like the proportion - I think it has a real lowbrow feel - I like this style it's interesting It reminds me very much of a painter I can't recall the name that was featured in Juxtapoz often. Overall, I love the Koi - I would totally display that one.

If I have any critique that Geisha is just a tad flat - I think you could work that one somemore.

I really love that you have a style - and I really can't wait to see more paintings!! Great work!

I dig the geisha very much, I think the concept is good BUT on something with clean lines like that I'd rather see really clean crisp and straight lines. Digital media might be best for that, therefor I'm gonna hve to put my support behind the fish! I feel the proportions are skewed tho, we should be able to see at least part of the other eye.
