A review of UNLIMITED by an EXPERT!

Hi, Mark,

I first saw your Unlimited magazine
about a week ago and have revisited
its pages several times since.

I've been trying to collect a vocabulary
that adequately expresses my appreciation
and admiration of this work. Unlimited is
an extraordinary achievement the reflects
creativity, multiple skills, an eye for
graphics and profound discipline (if not
obsession).

As you know your intent, I won't bother
to describe it. You have far exceeded the
quality of Synmag, Samson and Selbee and
accomplished a pleasing, cheerful
consistency that only a person with time
and some means could accomplish. Even though
the work is virtual, it is nonetheless real.

Your use of old ads and art, modern asymmetric
ornamentation, a rampant mix of typefaces
and precise pinup photography yields a truly
startling illusion. You have improved upon
the bold but primitive dabbling of the men
in white shirts, who worked without budget,
tools or time, who often worked with amateurs
at all crafts.

It never occurred to me that this work needed
to be done but your publishing trompe l'oeil
feat is so competent and fine that it illustrates
the aphorism, art for art's sake.
