“Montreal needs the main”
By Jessica Murphy on July 2, 2009
Surrounding Cabaret Café Cleopatre is a sex store and a nightclub, a vacant lot and sagging, boarded-up buildings with decades of grime ground deep into concrete and stone. On cloudy days the corner looks squalid. Sunny days don’t suit it.
To get inside, you push through a gaggle of tough-talking strippers on a smoke break and through the music…

Whoaaaaaaaaaaaa its been a truly crazy 2 weeks or so since this whole illegal expropriation thing and city meetings, presentations galore. We have submitted our own recommendations to the city .We certainly added a lot of colour to the presentations -what with our corsets, and sexy boots.lol We were quite nervous to present since all the other presentations came from architects and urban planning experts .With our memorandum, we decided to speak about the burlesque scene, body politics as…

We the Dead Doll Dancers are proud to be part of the performance /alternative scene of lower boul. st. laurent .
Preserving the 'facade' of a building is not developing/preserving culture or allowing for alternative inexspensive styles of performance art to flourish.
Apparently enjoying a hotdog, pitcher of beer, and seeing a dragqueen, burlesque , fetish events, punk rock show or a lap dance is not 'real entertainment'....
There has also been a steadfast very very angry refusal to…

whooooooo boy. The arrogance of the architecture firm ,the city covering up things and forcing expropriation .
The city has been in cahoots to create a socalled 'quartier des spectacles' literally a big ass large arts plaza ,sector.
The thing is they are destroying a certainly well known and obvious redlight sector. its not like this particular little section of town is a surprise and it certainly does not come close to the infamous old 'Combat zone ' of Boston from back in the day..…

A whole chapter was written about us and the special venue we perform at.
So if you are in Montreal, come on down to hear him and meet some of the
odd assembly of personalites he has written about (including us !)

The Dead Dolls are located in Montreal,Canada.
We have an interest in all things vaudevillian ,low brow humour.
We are a female dance troupe that enjoys performing neo burlesque.
We perform in a rather contemporary style. We enjoy using all sorts of music but
good ol' dirty music with driving beats is what does it for us. ;-)
stay tuned for more.
