- My Name is Lucy. I was born in Los Angeles CA, I moved to San Antonio TX at 16.
I feel very fortunate to have grown up in LA because I was exposed to various cultures and got to meet all types of people. Its was very easy to be inspired surrounded by such a colorful environment, but what I must say has been one of my biggest influences, is the Rockabilly culture. It truly opened up pandoras box.
I remember seeing my cousin Myi all dolled up on her way to a show and wanting to look just like her, eventually she let me tag along, and even gave me my first tube of red lipstick, (MAC's Rubby Woo) everything about the scene was exciting to me, the music, the cars, the boys! I was a goner. Shortly after this love affair began I discovered the incomparable miss Judy Garland, I fell hard for her charm, and as a result MGM musicals became an obsession. I started to dream of looking like the beautiful women I loved so much.
To top it off I discovered pinup while researching WWII. The traditional style I had seen was nothing less than feminine perfection but after some snooping I came across "The Pinup Post" where I discovered modern pinup along with all the different genres it had spawned. I spent hours scrolling through all the pictures and it became one of my favorite pass times, and being an awkward 16 year old looking at these photos and paintings of gorgeous women who looked so confident and had such wonderful style, well, lets just say it was all the encouragement I needed to start me off on the very journey I'm on now.
I started roller setting my hair, plucking my eyebrows, and wearing pantyhose. Needless to say I was a weirdo in school.
After we moved and I got through with high school I was faced with the challenge of finding an occupation and whenever my parents would badger me about when I was going to start college I would get a horrible sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. I put it off as long as I could. I started waitressing and after a year I couldn't take it any longer. I had to find what I was meant to do, but I knew it was nowhere near one of the Alamo city colleges.
I was fond of working with people, human resources and stuff like that, and in high school I even considered becoming a social worker or a school counselor. Then one day it occurred to me that I had always been some kind of an artist, I loved drawing, sculpting and all types of crafts, but then Carmindy the makeup artist from "What Not To Wear" came to mind. I would get a kick out of watching her transform a face and I thought about how I had really enjoyed helping my friends get ready for school dances and dates, doing their hair and makeup, and lord knows I loved putting myself together everyday! So I started checking out different beauty schools, and when I came across Paul Mitchell The School.. my goose was cooked. I felt right at home and so very thankful to have found my passion, that something that truly made me happy. I graduated from "The Harvard of Hair" in February 2010 and have been legally beautifying the world since then.
I've worked for several companies that provide hair and makeup for special events, photo shoots, and different types of productions.
I worked at Benefit cosmetics for a little over a year, and learned so much from working on different faces and skin types everyday.
I'd like to start freelancing on my own now, and although I can create all types of looks I specialize in vintage hairstyles and period make up,
As a lover of history I'm a stickler for authenticity, and have a great eye for detail, I just find it a shame that on my jobs I don't get the opportunity to create these looks as often as I'd like. Thats where you come in! I would love to meet more people who share the same passion, people that possess all the qualities that make working in this industry so wonderful, people I can learn and grow from, and models that can bring it all to life,

Lola, I just read your profile. It is one of the best profiles I have ever read, on any site! I can tell that it truly comes from the heart. And you seem like a truly wonderful person. I have a few decades on you, so I have been around the block a few times. You sound like you are both very self aware. And it seems like you must be a true beauty. And you and I know that beauty really originates from within.
