She appeared out of nowhere, radiating sideshow beauty and chainsaw charm. She loomed over us on her long legs. She seemed sturdy, like an ancient redwood, built on a different scale than you or me. Rhinestones flashed and glinted like a thousand dying stars as she glided gracefully on and off of the makeshift stages and spotlit dirt floors of city after city.

Her hair was frozen fire. Here eyes were polished jade. Her smile tugged at our collective gaze, never letting us see the runs in her stockings or scuff marks on her faded shoes. We gave ourselves to her, our eyes wide, our lips stretched over our teeth. The orchestra stopped. She returned to nowhere and part of us went with her. We were left alone with our memories and stray feathers drifting on the air. Her name still compels our lips: Viviennui.
