Kustom Voodoo began in 2003 when Jessica Monares, who, at 16 thought that girls, even the bad ones, should look cute while they were being bad. Thus Kustom Voodoo was born, starting with hair bows featuring the now signature Kustom Voodoo skull and fashion accessories, and later focusing on the hair accessory corner of the market, the concept was simple: give girls options while at the same time creating a recognizable product and brand. Also important was to create a line with a number of styles, variations and a price point that would entice the customer to collect the product.
The company, which in 2006 brought on a team of three to assist in fabrication and production and recently in 2008 has gained representation from Wholesale Threads Sales Agency, can be found in over 25 online and brick and mortar stores, ranging from retro inspired boutiques to occult stores. The company continues to grow, producing all of its products in Los Angeles and looking to all forms of popular culture for inspiration on the art of adornment, all in the name of “be bad, look cute.”
