So there was a post that lead to this group being opened, it didn't get followed up and its closed now to replies so I thought I'd start a new thread. So who's already getting ready??? I know I am, not am i just getting myself ready i'm working on stuff for my boutique and for the models that I will be having at Viva this year. So if anyone needs some great custom vintage clothing let me know I have some fabulous designs. But anyway I'm very excited and can't wait for this coming year its gets better every year that I go.
Someone asked about bowling at VIVA, there is a group that bowls every year for a tournament type thing, there are trophies and even bands this year. It's on Saturday at 5. there is more information about it at their myspace. myspace.com/ FGBL Its a blast every year and the group of people are fantastic. You dont have to be a pro or anything of the sort its just for fun and a little competition.

also look for "Vintage 1940s dress" ...lots of late 40s styles are "rockabilly."

I think at a place like Viva, it is more appropriate to wear vintage. Just goes with the spirit of the event, and ensures no one else will have your dress on!

I have been finding bargains on ebay lately...vintage deadstock for $50 and I got a late 40s dress for $10! It's a buyers market...do a search for "Vintage 1950s dress" and be sure to know your measurements! Also, don't go for things that popular sellers are selling because they will go for over $100 for sure!

OK so I am getting frustrated with Ebay, again. I have this crazy obsession with wearing stuff at VLV that I won't see 50 other girls wearing. There is just something embarassing about that, I dunno what........especially when the other girl looks wayyyyyyyyyyy cuter in the damned thing. Doubly embarassing.

Been shopping fiercely.....soooooo many Collectif knock-offs. No thanks. Alot of really cheaply made stuff that is trying to be passed off as "rockabilly clothing" as well as a ton (way too much) of Lucky 13.

And just when I think I have found a one-of-a-kind piece that I am SURE no one else will have, I find it being sold on a popular website. I had my eye on this killer dress for 7 days (was gonna "Buy it now") I had never seen it before, and I was sure that it was rare. Low and behold........I find it being sold on TooFast.com which pretty much = 200 girls are gonna be wearing it.

I guess the only way to GUARANTEE that no one else will be wearing something you have is to go vintage. I am gonna peruse over there. I Love vintage, I just find that I have a hard time fitting in it, and I don't want to deal with alterations this year.

The search continues!!!!!!!!
Now that the holidays are almost over, I'm starting to think about Viva. I wanted to start sooner, but it was just all too much. After reading all your posts I know a few things for sure... I'll will pack way too much stuff, take a ton of money to shop, and bring a suitcase full of shoes!

As for the "OMG she's wearing my dress" dilemma, I'm going to have everything (or as much as possible) custom made. That way I wont have to worry. I have a stack of pictures and patterns I want made, now I just have to find the right fabrics....
Ok just an fyi girls all my dresses that i make are all one of a kinds, they maybe the same type of dress but the fabrics are all different. I will also be having a boutique in my room the whole weekend since vendor space is very hard to come by. Also lately all my work has been custom made stuff and since the holidays are over I'm strictly working on nothing but viva stuff. So if you need something hit me up and we'll work out something.

As for shoes I always have one suitcase with nothing but them, my first viva I took 20 pairs and I wore each and every pair, i know it sounds crazy but I change at least twice if not three times each day there with all the dancing and smoke and drinking. Plus you never know if some one is gonna spill their drink on you or not. One year I had a fight happen right next to me, two girls got into it at my table and one of the girls pretty much dumped her drink on me, she was so lucky it wasn't one of my vintage dresses only a reproduction and the dress wasn't ruined just needed to be dry cleaned twice and that was after i club sodaed it. It got all in my shoes too, icky.
Also i've gotta recommend shoe inserts in your shoes if they aren't very cushioned also if your buying new shoes spray them down with rubbing alcohol weeks before viva and wear them with socks, this breaks them in better than anything else, its an old ballet trick.
I always over pack! Even when I went to California last year.. shoes, dresses, jeans, make up, hair products... thank god for my boyfriends suit case!! I'm so excited that I can't sleep at night!!
I went last year. Save up some cash, Have a swimsuit Just in case you have a big butt like me!!! Bring your cosmetics & Irons (Remember, Hotels have hair dryers,) a COUPLE dresses, matching shoes, 2 shirts, (1-2) skirt/pants/shorts & shop. Keep it simple. You'll probably wind up wearing only a few of your favorites anyways. Those Priority Mail Boxes are AWESOME and fit tons of stuff in them for cheap... I fly in from Hawaii so that is WAY more cost effecient for me! This is just if you plan on doing some serious shopping. There's nothing out here shopping wise as far as Vintage. I order everything off line or I got it on the Mainland Vacationing. I cant wait to Move to San Diego Next Summer! Hope to see you all at Viva!
Im SO EXCITED!!!
You know it's getting close to Viva when..........

There are easter baskets and candy in every store and I am having my famous "We got to Viva and forgot everything" nightmare. Every time this year, about two weeks before, I have a nightmare that we get to Vegas and have forgot all our money and I've forgot all my clothes. I actually have this dream before every big trip I go on.

The one last night was crazy, we get to the Orleans, check into the room and discover we forgot ALL our cash and our bank card. I then looked into my suitcase and had forgotten all my clothes, but there were about 12 pairs of wedge heels in every easter pastel color.....haha!
