I know we have the "when will you get there" thread, but lets have one for just hotels. That way we can see where the bulk of PLers are gonna be staying.

Also, if you have stayed in the hotel before, maybe give a small review so others know what to expect.

I haven't booked a room yet, but I'm looking at the Tahiti (it has a free shuttle to the Orleans, and looks kinda vintage tiki themed).

Roxy- The Orleans silly girl ! lol Never stayed there but at the pulse of the fun ! Like to meet up for a cool one and a smile ? Thanx - Tim
I'm staying at the Orleans...

I have stayed there 3 times and it surpasses the Mold Coast (Gold Coast) in quality. The rooms are better decorated and room service is faster. I spend little time in my rooms, so I don't care where I'm staying, as long as it is close to the action.
Orleans! Staying at the host hotel is a must for us. I hate staying off site. I like being able to pop up to the room whenever I feel like it. I hate doing makeup and hair touch ups in the crowded bathrooms......it's so much better being able to run up to the room and primp in peace. It's easier if you buy and keep booze in the room too. Having to spend all of your $$ at the bar is not cheap!
The Orleans, for the 4th year in a row. I have food-restricted friends who really like having their own kitchenette at the Emerald Suites next door (no shuttle necessary) and I know that Jimmy has stayed in a condo OFF site before and enjoyed being able to get away from the Viva mayhem. I prefer to hobble on my achin' feet to the closest elevator!
The Orleans. I've stayed here before. I agree with Christi it's best to be on site. If newcomers want a review heres my two cents ... the rooms are fairly spacious, ample dressing and makeup area in the rooms, no fridge, on site liquor store is good and pretty reasonable prices, the wifi is pay per day, workout room is pretty standard cheap hotel, pool area is nice, spa is ok just ok but not expensive (the pick three treatments package the best bargain, except you have to tip three people), room service is not delicious (but room service never is), the coffee place is not good you are better off going without if you have an espresso addiction, the sushi bar is good, and cheap just sit at the bar and talk to the sushi chef about what's fresh they have always been super honest with me, the oyster bar place was good twice but not so good once, they have some chain restaurants too, I think I remember those being ok but Ive only had those when I was already pretty drunk. There is also a buffet and a steak house which I have never been to. The hotel is not near the strip. But a cheap cab ride gets you where ever you need to be. Don't bother planning to do too many things around town you are going to want to be at Viva events. I firmly believe it's nice for us not to be in the middle of the vegas action. I don't need a bunch of tourist looky loos and douchey dudes ruining my view of all the lovely people. The staff at the Orleans have always been very nice. Some of the older ones have commented that they really love this convention. Be nice to the maid and say Hello. They are super nice and won't knock if you put the door sign out. The bartenders are not fast. Just be patient and tip and if you want more drinks order two at a time. The cocktail waitresses in the casino wear a very very small outfit to different degrees of success (some look comfortable and some of look sad, like when you put a dress on a puppy). They all deserve smiles and tips. The nicer you are to them the faster they deliver your drinks. I don't know why but those outfits really surprised me, Orleans is kind of a working class type casino. Overall it's not the glitzy, cheesy, sleazy Vegas here. None of the bartenders are on reality tv or juggling (flair) bottles. Which is good, because I don't like that phony stuff. It's the Vegas casino you are probably most likely to see a local gambling in after their shift.
Oops that was more than two cents. Those are all just my own personal opinions and observations. Weigh in peeps.
WED night and Thurs at the Orleans,Friday and Saturday at the Gold Coast. Waited too long to book basically I was broke after the Holidays..lol...
Orleans was unavailable for our travel dates so we'll be next door at the Gold Coast. See you all there!
Gold Coast is a couple miles away but there is a free shuttle!

We are staying at the Orleans this year. Last year we were at the Gold Coast and the shuttle runs back and forth all day and most of the night.
If you have a chance to stay on-site, do so. You will save tons of time and money not having to travel. You can just run to your room if you want to freshen up, change something, or put away something you bought. If you aren't staying on-site this year, plan to do it next year. This will be my eighth year and I have always stayed on-site. As for the mayhem of Viva...that's what I go there for!

The Orleans!! First time there!
I can't stress enough to stay on-site IF you have a choice to! Or if you have missed out on a room at the host hotel, stay as close as possible!!! Just......trust the people who are telling you this.

I don't know why I am having such a hard time explaining this to first timers. I have two sets of friends here in town that are gonna be Viva first timers this year, and it is like pulling teeth trying to convince them why they DON'T want to stay on the strip or elsewhere.

I just got off the phone about an hour ago with one of those said friends....him and his girl want to stay on Freemont! I winded myself for ten minutes convincing them (or trying to at least) to stay closer.

Our other friends are hell bent at staying on the strip, at one of the big flashy hotels. I have tried multiple times to convince them.....that when you are coming to vegas for VIVA, stay by it! You can go to Vegas any other time of the year and do the strip thing or old vegas thing. Well, maybe not so much for alot of us who can't afford to jet off to Vegas any old time, but these friends of mine can.

I figure at this point I am just gonna let them do what they do, and learn for themselves why I was right.....haha! By Friday they are gonna be hating life.... living in cabs and traffic, missing all the action.....and all I am gonna say is "Well, you know what to do next year!" :)
