This is gonna be the first year we are gonna try to do the pool party right. We've gone other years, but have usually showed up towards the end, stayed for a bit and left.

This time around I want to set up camp and hang out all day. So my question is, HOW do you get a chair(s? We showed up last year about an hour after it started and were dying to sit down, but getting a chair was out of the question.

The next question is about bathing suits......how many of you plan on wearing an actual vintage suit? Do most people wear them?
I have searched high and low for one, and can't find my size, then the ones that do fit and I want are $150 or more and I can't spend that.

Are there any vendors that anyone knows about that might be selling them for a decent price?

If the task proves to be too difficult, which it already kinda has, I honestly just want to wear a "normal" suit and be done with it..... not even a vintage repro, just a damned bikini from my drawer. How many of you will be wearing non-vintage or rockabilly inspired swimwear?
Thanks!

Thanks for the plug! I also have some muu-muus, men's vintage swim trunks, and I plan to list a couple of vintage Hawaiian aloha shirts today. Keep your eyes peeled!

I plug Tiddlywink also for purchasing a vintage one ;)
I can relate to the legs part! I don't like my legs either. You still have time to maybe have a sarong made to match your swimsuit. Sarongs are easy to make and my seamstress made one for $50, and what I was paying for was mostly the fabric.

Not everyone wears a vintage suit. One year I just wore shorts and tee because I was feeling too chubby to wear my suit. I still had fun and it was nice not to have creepers taking my picture. This year I think I will need to get some type of wrap or something since I don't like my legs. I have a retro one piece and most the wraps look really stupid with it, very frustrating. I never get a chair, always late, just be sure to apply thick thick thick sunscreen and reapply often. Also, have a cute umbrella or a big hat.
Your swimsuits are adorable but too small for me! I advise anyone who can fit into them to buy them because they are reasonably priced for vintage suits and totally cute!

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I know that you know your vintage, so a thumb's up from Kim Bombshell carries credibility.

I searched high and low for vintage bathing suits. Ebay is a good place to find some. I also found a few around where I live. They are expensive to buy and are very difficult to find the right size. I found one and bought it. Fits great! I don't think it will be a necessity to wear a vintage suit though.. concentrate on finding great outfits for the car show and your nights out!

That swimsuit is so pretty! Target also has a retro number this year; they're carrying SOME colors in store but a larger selection online. (Click on the Target link to see them)

Thanks everyone for the GREAT responses! I guess we are gonna show up early to try to get some chairs and have a space to chill. Since we are staying at the Orleans I am guessing we can access the pool area before the line forms.

I have seen the Vintage Suits by Mary and they are awesome! So are the repro ones on all of the other sites, but at this point time is of the essence and I don't have much more $$ to spend. It's good to hear that Target bathing suits are acceptable (haha!) cauuse that's what I am gonna wind up in. I really just want to be able to swim, romp around and not have to look picture perfect by Sunday......I think I will be ready to let loose and relax by then....

some people really want to swim, and some folks are on day four or five of drinking and dancing and just want to relax. Since most people on Pinup Lifestyle are affiliated with modeling, photography, or clothes...it's my advice that you represent your self how you want to be remembered. =)

My thoughts exactly! I will be in that boat, I just know it. I want to relax but at the same time look decent enough for any random photo ops that might come about.
Whats up Miss Invicta? I agree that when you check in to the hotel, ask if you can get two chairs or a lounge sent up to your room. Or go to Big Lots or Goodwill and start looking for some cheap summer fold up chairs and throw them in the car.

Ummm....Razzle Dazzle and Blonde Dynamite Boutique have dynamite vintage suits for under $50!!! in smaller sizes!!! Check us out at See you and Deena later today to finish up that Viva wardrobe!
I really just need more dough in life, so I can go ahead and hire you on as my personal stylist.

Dude, I need more dough so I can have a personal shopper! Finding this stuff is a full time job! Working in a vintage store has been my salvation. I dished out for the sarong and suit, but the rest of my viva wardrobe I got for really cheap through dealers who sell at my store and estate sales.

Speaking of estate sales, I have a huge bag of vintage 50s sportswear (high waisted pedal pushers, shorts, 2 piece sets, blouses, etc.) I scored yesterday. It is through the historical society and has to go through committee. Hopefully I will have it before Viva and can bring it with me. I will sell low if I get it before I leave.
