I posted this in the Viva myspace group, also...thought of a few more!

Remember when...
The car show was on top of the parking garage at Gold Coast?
The halls and ballrooms weren't so packed that you could see the bands you wanted to see in time?
Most of the girls wore vintage, especially on Saturday night!
The Car show wasn't filled with pin ups and photographers!
The Japanese were the coolest cats there!
You recognized half the people in pics posted!
The Viva website had a forum!
The tiki bar was a Mau and not Kubar?
The tiki bar at the car show gave away drinks!

Check out this old gallery from Viva's of past:

Alas, my first year was VLV10, also known as The Year Without A Tiki Bar. Also, the first year that the car show wasn't on top of the parking garage. Still, there was plenty of beautiful vintage to eyeball on both the girls AND guys and those Japanese pomps were bombdillyicious. The friends who dragged me along with them recognized bunches of people from previous years, and we heard plenty of folks who complained that it "isn't like it used to be." I had a great time at VLV10, VLV11, and even VLV12, when I joined those ranks myself because by the second day, I had seen probably 200 gals overstuffed into their ill-fitting corsets all trying to stand out from the crowd and all winding up looking exactly like each other, and the showrooms had been closed by security for overcrowding... kudos to Tom, his team, and the folks at the Orleans for getting that situation straightened out by Saturday.

Actually, one of the best times I had at VLV12 was sitting down with an exhausted-but-still-leafleting Kim Bombshell at one of the casino bars for half an hour or so one night! I know how much you wanted to get back to your room and sleep, which makes the time you took to hang out with me and the Reverend Buttcheeks that much more special. If there's one thing that HASN'T changed, it's that there is never enough time to do/see everything you want to!
This year, we will have more Wink/Kim time! Thanks so much for you guys helping me keep my sanity last year! This year, no work, all play!!!!

A close friend of mine told me I might sound like an elitist b**** by this post, but I assure you I still love Viva and don't mind all the pin ups and photographers! I just remember before pin up photography wasn't so popular and you didn't see it at Viva :-)
No way! Not to me, at least. I think it's a cool post. :0

I also ranted about #4 a little bit over on Myspace hehe. The "pinupparazzi" is a little annoying but at the same time, if a legit photographer asks me to take a pic, I am all on it! There are certain aspects of the whole thing that has become ridiculous but it's still fun. I try to steer clear of that crap and do my own thing.

I mean, times change, things change, but we all accept it, move on and have fun anyway. There is nothing wrong with refelcting on simpler times. I mean yeah, there are more than a handful of things that annoy me about the pinup/rockabilly scene but it doesn't stop me from going to Viva or doing any of the other s*** I do. I am sure I'm not the only one!

OK, I just didn't want to offend anyone! I wouldn't come on this site if I didn't like pin up art! I'm thinking since they are charging $25 for the car show, there might be less of the "boobs on sticks" types you ranted about on myspace :)

I have no problem posing for pics. When my husband and I used to bring our kids, lots of people had us pose for pics because we had the kids dressed up too. I need to find an old pic from the first viva where my 2 year old son had pomped hair and cuffed jeans and my 5 year old daughter wore a tulle skirt. That was when I was blonde!

Couldn't find the family photo, but here is my son and I at Viva 2003

Here's a pic of just him in one of his viva outfits

Yeah, maybe it will weed them out!

I never want to offend anyone either or sound like a jealous, catty beeotch. I am just annoyed by some things and tend to get a little long-winded about them. If I didn't like pinups, I wouldn't be here, either! For pete's sake, I am dieting and working out right now to look good for Viva! Also stressing on clothes, makeup, you name it. I love being photographed and looking smokin hot too, I guess I just approach the whole thing differently than those said people that I am annoyed with :)

We're both pretty opinionated people, and gotta cover our a****! It comes along with the territory, I guess.

I gotta clarify most things that I say or I'll sound like a total hypocrite.

aaahhhhh....me too! I even state on my profile here "I'm opinionated, but my opinions come from experience"

Thought of a few more "remember when..."

Remember when the lounge had some asian top 40 band playing during the weekender?
Remember "the overheard at Viva" section of the Viva Website? You could submit quotes overheard at viva, I specifically remember "It's like the 50's but angrier" and "Her dress is cute but it clashes with her tattoos"
We had a good one the first year we went, simple, but funny.

Standing at tough guy alley bar, Friday during the day, tourist type family of four walks by, the couple looked to be in their 40's and the two kids were maybe 11-12 years old. They're all looking around in confusion and awe....wife turns to husband and says "WHAT is going on around here?!" husband replies "I dunno, looks like some sort of 50's or 60's thing"

I also overheard two older ladies at the car show last year talking about how all the girls with tattoos look "trashy" and the ones without look "classy" They pointed to a girl on a car getting her photo taken, who had no tattoos, and one lady turned to the other and goes "See now, see...look at her (points to the girl) SHE looks good, really classy. NO tattoos. That's the way to do it."
Yes!!!!! I remember all of this! =)

I have been going since Viva #5 so all of this stuff listed means a lot to me. Although I will always adjust to the changes so I continue to have a great time.

About photographers at the car show: I run The Pinup Angels and we had a booth there last year. When someone would make a donation and ask to take a photo with us, we come out in front of our booth an line up with them. It was insane how there were suddenly 'swarms of cameras' every time. We had to start telling people that we were a charity and if they photographed us, to please contribute to our cause. If we didn't, we would have spent all day out in the front for them and not doing any business. That made me really uncomfortable because I want people to contribute to our cause because they believe in it, not out of guilt. It was so rediculous that I saw a guy litteraly RUN to us to get a shot when he saw us line up. I LOVE the photogs, but I kinda miss the days then the drunk boys would ask you to come pose with them & their car and their drunk friend would take a blurry picture...and that was enough.

yeah, those days are long gone. You've got a great cause...keep doing it!
