I posted this in the Viva myspace group, also...thought of a few more!

Remember when...
The car show was on top of the parking garage at Gold Coast?
The halls and ballrooms weren't so packed that you could see the bands you wanted to see in time?
Most of the girls wore vintage, especially on Saturday night!
The Car show wasn't filled with pin ups and photographers!
The Japanese were the coolest cats there!
You recognized half the people in pics posted!
The Viva website had a forum!
The tiki bar was a Mau and not Kubar?
The tiki bar at the car show gave away drinks!

I don't remember which VLV it was, but it was pre-12, when the pool party was still held at the Gold Coast... my friends and I got there early to get lounge chairs and spots. The party wasn't yet in full swing, but us ’billies were definitely starting to gather. The Perfect Suburban American Family comes out in their swimsuits, sets up, dips into the pool... and then they take a slow look around. They were heading back inside within 5 minutes. I guess the tattooed ladies and the greasers in the pool (still in their cowboy hats and sunglasses) must have scared them off. :)

What I missed most last year, and I have no idea why it didn't seem to happen at the Orleans, were the previous years' elevator rides with little old ladies* who are tickled pink to see us all dressed up. SO many stories of "I had an outfit just like that, I wonder if it's still in the attic..." Those smiles and nods of approval from the original generation mean the world to me.

*Apologies to any PL members who may be in their mid-70s or greater. I use "little old ladies" as a term of endearment. I'm playing catch-up as quickly as I can, it sometimes seems. :)

We had a good one the first year we went, simple, but funny.

Standing at tough guy alley bar, Friday during the day, tourist type family of four walks by, the couple looked to be in their 40's and the two kids were maybe 11-12 years old. They're all looking around in confusion and awe....wife turns to husband and says "WHAT is going on around here?!" husband replies "I dunno, looks like some sort of 50's or 60's thing"
