I am interested in finding out if there are any "plus size" (oh god how I hate that term - sorry!) pin-up models here and how they got started in pin-up modelling.

As a "plus size" woman/model/photographer; I personally prefer being called voluptuous no matter what size I wear. In the modeling industry size 12 and up is seen as a plus size, but in my eyes a size 14 and up should be considered plus sized since a 12 is considered medium in clothing.

I think that what we are called should be whatever we desire to be called. I have some "bigger" friends in the modeling industry who like to be called fat. Thus much like most things in life labeling should be decided upon by the individual, not the mass.

I  would like to add that I got involved in pinup work through a good friend of mine who promotes models. I have never done anything considered "professional". I do my images mainly for fun... rather than bread and butter ;)

Cheers Everyone!

absolutely!!!!! very well put sister!

I'm considered "Plus-size". You just have to find what works for you. I've never been a stick, and I never will be. Even at my "ideal weight" (which I am not at), I'll still be considered plus-size... it's just the way my body is. My hips are big, my chest is big, my shoulders are wide... I even wear a size 9 shoes.

It's also hard to find anything vintage in a size like mine, because they simply didn't MAKE IT. People will turn up their nose and say "Well, back then people weren't so overweight." But I say HECK to that. People were SMALLER! Their bone structure, their feet, their height... all smaller. We are bigger, as people.

I think that girls like me make BEAUTIFUL models though. Super thin girls were NOT what was painted on planes... it was those curvy, bombshell girls. They had meat on the bone... people have lost that understanding in our society.

The trick is to find clothing for photos, etc. that make you FEEL beautiful. Let's face it... they don't MAKE it to fit bigger girls, so we struggle.  We don't live in a society were clothing is made custom... so we try to all fit into "pre-set" sizes.

When you finally find something that fits you and flatters you... we glow and our curves shine and we radiate. I think that's not something you can "create" in photoshop.

Moral of the story? Celebrate your curves, and work to make a society where "thin is in" work for YOU. You'll end up way ahead-- and heck! Maybe we'll even change society. Obviously, what's "beautiful" evolves.

I think they say size 12 and up is plus size but Im not sure.... Im not a model.. but would love to take pics someday.... if you are photogenic and love your body I dont think it matters what size you are..... look into plushcatclub on facebook... Im a member of that too and these are beautiful women girl....hats off to you and good luck.

I have no answers for you, Manda, and I don't know or care a bit about social norms, popular culture, etc; however, I do know that I really really like Teer Wayde...HOT HOT HOT!

Based only on what I have already observed, I say, "the water is fine, jump in".  This seems like a good place to get noticed by photographers and/or venue operators and make contacts...couldn't hurt in any case.

I will say that "society" labels girls above a size 14....As plus size. So by those definitions....I am an obese size. But at this point in my life. I have figured out that getting back down to "normal" "society acceptable weight" is probably not going to happen. I am trying to lose weight. And trying to eat good and not gorge on food. Sometimes you were born "big boned" not much you can do about it. And sadly in some ways as others have said. I have come to terms with plus size. I will say before I was pregnant. I was a size 16...Which to me was a good size. Now Due to my pregnancy of my daughter I am in the 20z in some shirts "mostly button ups". And in some cases if the shirt is polyester/cotton I can fit in a size 16/18...It just all depends as others have mentioned. AS for this term plus size. As others have said not my favorite. I use it as not a skinny mini...Yes I have meat and muscle on my bones I pumped iron as a freshmen...My calves do not fit in zip up knee high boots because I worked my calves and they are solid muscle. I may look like santa claus and a bowl full of jelly but....I was healthier then a lot of women who were a lot skinnier then me when I was pregnant with my daughter. No gestational diabetes, No preclampsia....Nothing bad happened to my daughter that was preventable. SO I MUST BE HEALTHY!! And to that I say oh well if I am "overweight, obese" God made me that way get over it !
LOL Plumpie Pinup.  That's me.   Great thread!!!

I think they are BBW Vixen rather than plus size pinup.

A Pinup can be anyway you look no matter how big or small you are. As, long you can pull it off and if got the state of mind.

Not all women have cofendence to pull of it, no matter what. I also know some transgender people pull it off well as well.

So, my point is that if you got what it takes be a pinup, I am all for it.

For me the right term for larger women is Junoesque, and Junoesque piups are in my mind superb, size 0 is frankly unatural. Well thats my penny's worth!

This is a great thread talking about bigger, plus size, BBW whatever girls... however, I ask that there not be any nasty or negative remarks made about our skinny sisters. EVERYONE can be beautiful, no matter what size. You bigger ladies would not like the skinny girls saying mean or negative things about you, and they don't  want to hear you say it about them. Please continue this awesome thread, but remember to be nice.

Thank you,

I think the main message here seems to be...no matter what size, -3 or 22, if you carry yourself with confidence, take care of yourself and respect yourself...your beauty will shine through. There are so many beautiful bodacious cute curvatious chics on here!! We should all be proud!

And just to say, I love Crystal Renn. She is SO gorgeous! She started out as a less voluptuous model and to me is far more beautiful now that she's in the place body should be.

I like my ladies soft...nuf said

Crystal Renn according to her latest comp card from Ford is back to a size 4..

Her last campaign was Spring 2011 for Jimmy Choo.   I think she looks great.
