going outside your "comfort zone"

I had an offer recently to do a modeling job. I am very flattered to be offered the job...but it's outside my normal comfort zone, and that is sort of scary for me. Its to do some film clips and stills for a warrior princess type shoot...leather bikinis and swords. Very zena warrior princess type stuff. I have only ever done pin up pics and I don't really even know if I can do a warrior princess!

Do you girls only do pin up or are there other types of modeling you do? How do you go into a different role when you are so used to a certain type of lifestyle? I'm no actress, that's for sure! It feels strange!

Ohh awesome-congrats! Um, music helps me a lot-sets me in the mood. I also have a daily inner dialogue with myself so if I am nervous I kinda talk myself through it. Practice the poses in the mirror too and your facial expressions.

 

I noticed a lot of the gals here do lots of different kind of pin up work and also other modeling. I am into classic pin up-I honestly dont think I have the face for anything else but...lol

I do whatever I like and whatever I feel good about. If I feel that's it's not "me" then I won't do it. There are some girls when you look at their photos you can see how uncomfortable they are. It's good to push yourself a little, but too much out of your comfort zone and the photos will show it. Remember the bottom line is to  take good pictures, if you don't feel like you can do it well, wait until you think you can.

 

However, if it's just nerves getting to you, get over it and go do it!! Watch a few episodes of Xena to get in the mood in the days before your shoot. Walk around in your outfit so that you are used to how it feels.

 

If you don't like it, don't do it. But if you're just nervous, give it a try, it might end up amazing!

I agree with Roxy.  You also have to ask yourself what about it makes you feel uncomfortable?  If it's just the fact that it's outside of the vintage pin-up look, I would say, "Go for it" because you'll never know till you try. If it's uncomfortable for a more personal reason, then don't sacrifice your standing just because someone offered you a shoot. That's my two cents.

Costume play and Pin up are so similar you might want to try something fun and different.  If it doesn't feel right though...then follow your heart.

Agreed. If you want to do it, don't let your nerves be your guide! I have done short films, hair modeling, and other odds and ends. I just have fun with it =) Best of luck!

congrats on the opportunity! i do other modeling not just pin up. i am currently trying out the 7os type of bohemian style of clothing and shooting that. at this moment that is what interests me. i will always love pin up and continue to do it but i like to try my hand and various other types of genres or themes. you just have to do what you are comfortable with and what you love. good luck!!
