Burlesque movie!! Christina Aguilera....

So the cast apparently is as follows:

Christina Aguilera, Cher, Cam Gigandet, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell...

I know that a portion of the movie was filmed in Toronto wear I live. It is nice that someone is shining a light on such a beautiful art form such as burlesque. Although I'm not too sure on how the interpretation will come across. This could very well taint the image of burlesque and give the general public a negative view. I'm guessing that the majority of people going to watch the film will be burlesque fans anyway, just as the case of Drew Barrymore's "Whip It" which gave the spotlight to roller derby.

So I was wondering what all of you lovely people think! Are you stoked about the movie, not-so stoked? Do you like the cast? Would you want to see anyone else take on leading roles? Let's here some feedback, this movie is about something we here at PL all love!

You know, I saw it and I was going in thinking it would be awful but it wasn't, i thought it was pretty good and I don't even like Christina, some cheesy plot bits but it's nice for a movie. It's not what I consider full blown burlesque but it wasn't the load of crap I thought it would be.

I watched Christina's interview with Conan O'Brien, she doesn't seem to really know much about the culture and art behind the movie, but does seem respectful of it at least.. And then tries to teach Conan how to shake his butt... Which is pretty entertaining.
I think my man and I have a couple of free movie passes that aren't good for awesome 3D kid's movies, so I might drag him out to see it.

I enjoyed the movie. There is one performance where they do strip. The vocals and dancing were very good and the costumes were fabulous. The sets were realistic. I would have liked to have seem more classic burlesque included. It is bringing attention to the art of burlesque and that is a good thing.

I thought that the plot was crap, and most of it was modern cabaret (like the Pussycat Dolls), not burlesque. Of course alot of the costuming was amazing and I actually liked the songs and coreography but it is not burlesque! There was 1 number that could have been a true burlesque number and the costume was amazing, all I particularly remember about it was the Christina was wearing a little pearl outfit that got snatched off of her and in the end of it there were fans(?) covering her boobs and her cooch. I loved this one. Except for this act the rest of the movie didnt contain any real tease, which is what burlesque is all about! I went to see the movie with the other girls in my revue, and they pretty much had the same opinions as me. We all agreed that it was good that we didnt expect much going in, because it didnt deliver...

I saw the movie and thought it was great. I found myself wanted to clap after each performance but I was surrounded by non-clappers. Although they weren't really burlesque performances, they were still great. The costumes, stage, makeup, choreography, and everything was fantastic. I recommend going to see it.

I feel like this movie will be a bad influence in the dance world. I can just see it now- so many dance studios with young uninformed teachers starting more "burlesque" classes based on the style of dance from this movie with no research on what traditional burlesque actually is. If this movie was about Dita Von Teese, I would be more interested.

I have yet to see it, and I plan to, but the first trailer I saw left me feeling like the plot would be too much like Coyote Ugly, just with sequins, glitter, And Cher. Anyone who's seen both films have any thoughts?

I LOVED this movie, and will see it again in the theatre. It really made me wanna dance! Obviously it is not actually burlesque, but let's be realistic people: Studios make movies for profit. PG movies reach a broader audience and therefore more $. Real Burlesque ain't PG. Economics.

The film is fun. If you want to see real burlesque, go support your local gals. Those ladies could use the $ more than Hollywood anyway
