So here's the skinny. I am in the process of opening a place in central NJ in the heart of suburbia. It will be a cafe/lounge/entertainment venue with a rockabilly theme and will host bands, circus sideshow and burlesque among others.
Now this is the type of joint you are more likely to come across in a more urban setting. My thought is that I will be bringing city styled entertainment to suburbia. I plan to fill the gap here to have a place where like minded individuals have a place to play as well as something new and interesting for everyone else to experience. The closest thing we have is the Asbury Lanes over an hour away otherwise you need to head into NYC or Philly.
My question for you all today is: What advice might you give to ease the introduction of Burlesque into the community?
We know better but the locals may perceive it initially as a strip joint. This may seem odd to some of you but trust me, i've been trying to find a home for this for a while and even before the burlesque question the idea that it will be patronized by people with tattoo's and piercing's is an issue. After all, it's well known that folks like that eat babies :) *sigh*
