Burlesque

I'm curious about this. I know why I'm interested in dancing but, I'd like to hear why all of you dance (or if you're not a dancer, why do you like burlesque?). I know there are "obvious" reasons - i.e. almost naked ladies - but, I like burlesque because it's like expressing the intense sexuality of women and it's empowering. Trying to explain that to my family is a little hard, though. :P

I do burlesque for a lot of reasons, and they are changing with time and with the acts I do.
My biggest reason is because I get a real kick out of it, the adrenaline.
Then there is the creative part, putting it all together and polish it. I love it all from deciding on music, costume and choreography and props.
Then I also love the interaction with the audience, to preform for them and giving them a night to remember. When on stage I make sure I have fun but also that they are entertained!

There are even more reasons, believe it or not
I believe that all women and men can take the stage and create something beautiful, sexy and fun not only those with perfect bodies.
Sexuality and sensuality is often included in burlesque and to me these are natural, amazing things that deserves to be glorified! Not hidden away and not talked about.

Burlesque can be political, filled with satire, hilarious and also sexy, seductive and glamorous. It can be whatever you want it to be, and I REALLY love that

Burlesque is beautiful in so many ways. You get to dress up in beautiful fun outfits, dance around and tease men. Who wouldn't love that! Its an expression of yourself and a silly yet sensual way. 

Burlesque is especially amazing because its offered to a wide expansion of people. Like you know, when you see a 'bigger' woman strip or get on a pole you think "hmm.. kinda weird. but good for her!" kind of thing but if you see a slender girl you'd be like "damn shes kinda hott/cute." Its a limited thing. But every girl looks good doing burlesque. 

Its just so fun! and from some of the women i've talked to about it, burlesque has actually helped them become more comfortable with themselves.

A couple of years ago I don't think I could have imagined myself taking my clothes off on stage and now I can't imagine my life with out it.

So many things to love! I think that for me the number one thing I love is that it is body positive. It does not matter what shape or size you are, if you are up on that stage having a good time then the audience loves you!!! I feel that every woman should feel sexy and this is a great way to do it. The first class I took a woman in the class said that she was there because she didn't feel/know how to be sexy. I think it is inside all of us waiting to come out.

Also, there is something very powerful about being on the stage and in control of the audience. It is very empowering! They are waiting for what you are going to do next.  And they are as excited as you are.

I love that there are so many different kinds of acts. You can be anyone you want on that stage. It's interesting too how that changes the longer you do it! For me, it's the glamour, the sparkle, the very classic. But now I am working on a number having to do with a chicken and very silly, which is a complete deviation from my usual.
