"We Are The New Vintage"
So I have super kinky curly hair. Since I just go out of the Navy in February its also pretty short.
My everyday go to style is a Lucille Ball inspired style that works well with my hair. Like this.
Do you ladies with curly hair blow out or flat iron your hair before you try pin curl settings? I tried doing them wet and sleeping in them but when I brushed them out the next morning they just wanted to go right back into their normal curl by midday. I'd love to hear any advice on what I could do to tame my poofball into polished locks.

sigh I would love to have some natural curl to my hair.

I have curly hair too, mine are thick spiral curls and I have tons of hair. Curls can be your friend without having to use a ton of products on them.
For my hair, I wash it at night with Argon Oil shampoo and conditoner. Afterwards I put on some virign olive oil, curly hair tends to be a little on the dry side. Then I put on my Turbie Twist.
In the morning before I style my hair I wet it first, then brush it out with a thick wooden paddle brush. If you brush dry curly hair you get what my mom calls "tarantula hair."
I use a setting lotion called "Motions Foaming Wrap Lotion." It looks like mousse but it helps keep your curls in place after it dries without making them hard. Then I just do pin curls to my hair and let it air dry. If I have plans to go out later that day, I just take out the hair pins and expand the curls to look a little bigger for a more dramatic effect.
You can buy all these magical products at Sally's!

Mine is super thick, super dense, coarse, and a combination of perfect spirals, and frizzy zig zaggy things. If it would make up it's mind and be perfectly uniform curls that are all the same shape and size, and soft, that would be great. And while I'm wishing for miracles can it please stay nice and not expand with humidity? Thanks. ;) I am actually growing it back out (it's much shorter than that picture) so that I can stop straightening it and just let the curls be. When it's long like in the picture I just put serum and curly hair mousse and let it air dry. Much less work than when it's shorter.
Isn't that the truth. I wish I had hair that would just curl the RIGHT way. I'd love to have those luxurious curls you can get from a pin curl set, not these tight ones that give me an afro.
Funny I was complaining to a friend with stick straight hair one time, she interrupted and said "shut up! it takes me 2 hours to get my hair curled, and it falls out 10 minutes later". Sheesh! Sometimes it's fun to play with it and try to fight it, and make it do what other lady's hair can do, or try. Sometimes we gotta just learn to work with it instead of against it.
yup I'll never forget the one day when I saw a friends hair in its natural curly state, I didn't know she straightened it all the time. I was like do you know how much money I spent on perms for years to make my hair look like yours does? I really can't perm my hair anymore I torture it enough with dye, so I'm learning to make curlers, curling irons and the like my friends. Buttercup Clothing said:
