So I have super kinky curly hair. Since I just go out of the Navy in February its also pretty short.

My everyday go to style is a Lucille Ball inspired style that works well with my hair. Like this.

Do you ladies with curly hair blow out or flat iron your hair before you try pin curl settings? I tried doing them wet and sleeping in them but when I brushed them out the next morning they just wanted to go right back into their normal curl by midday. I'd love to hear any advice on what I could do to tame my poofball into polished locks.

with curly hair, its best to blow dry with a brush make sure to put some product in ur hair to help with using a lot of heat such as flat irons, blow dryer, and sit under dryer... my daughter is part mexican and rican so her hair is extremly wavy so its a 5 step process to do her hair, [rocess starts : wash hair, condition, blow dry, flat iron, than hot comb...she now does it she washs conditions and blow dries, and flat iron she has a skinny flat iron and and smaller flat iron....if ur hair is short get the skinny flat iron and the small short one f there is a walmart near u go there if not order on line...second be careful how u use the flat iron...much luv Tricia D

I have naturally curly hair and if you wanna knock out some of the natural curl and make it easier to make it soft and wavy or bone straight I suggest a keratin treatment (you can get it at beauty supply stores all over). Lasts about 6 weeks for me and makes vintage style way easier to achieve.
I haven't used keratine either. I had my hair chemically straightened in high school and it fell out and I had a big bald spot. I came to find out later it was one of those chemical treatments with formaldehyde and other scary things in it. From what I've read keratine would be much nicer to my hair.

Thank all of you for your help. xoxoxo
Has anyone with super curly hair tried the Brazilian Blow out?  Im wondering if it works!  I have gotten the Japanese Straight Perm a few times which was okay...but very damaging.
I had the Brazilian Blowout just a few days ago and I'm very happy with the results. It took about half of my curl out and nearly eliminated my frizz. But after I got it done I found out that it's really just a keratin treatment that you can buy at Sallys for $30. I paid $140 for my blowout. I'm going to try the Sally's treatment and see if I get the same results.
I had the Japanese straight perm done but the girl who did it was less than truthful about her experience in it and my hair started falling out and I ended up with chemical burns to my scalp. That was a scary experience.
Oh gosh I feel ya girl! I had it done 4 times...the last time I got it done was at a beauty college.  Two girls worked on my hair, half of my hair was more straight then other half.  I also got chemical burns!!! I had bumps on my head...it freaked me out, thought I had cancer or something!  So yeah, no more Japanese straight perm for me.  It might be good for other hair types though, my hair is super thick and curly (I am mixed with asian and black).  Is the Keratin treatment harsh as well?
My hair didn't feel brittle and fried after the Brazilian/Keratin treatment. It's just a protein treatment. It also didn't smell near as bad as the Japanese perm did. You can't wash your hair for four days afterwards but when I did yesterday my hair still feels soft and healthy.
