I've been meaning to sign up there. But one quick question, on the registration form it says my state and town will be displayed. I don't want that displayed. Can it be hidden later in security settings?

I don't think you can hide it, but you can change it. One of the things people do is pick a big city near them (mine would be San Francisco). That way people can find you by area in case there is something going on, but no one knows where you really are.

That's pretty standard for a community that works hard to keep out spammers and creepers. You can use the same photo you used here on PL though, so it shouldn't be a problem.
