I picked up this book the other day with only one thought: "meh". I was really indecisive whether or not I was going to like it, but decided against the old expression, and judged the book by its cover. I am disgustingly obsessed with Abraham Lincoln. He is hands down my favorite past American President. Naturally, I skimmed through the summary of what reading this book would entail, and was afraid I'd end up putting it down out of frustration. I hate it when books and movies go against history. HATE it. Don't even get me started on Disney's Pocahontas...
Buuuttt, I ended up loving it so much, I couldn't put it down. I finished it within the 24 hours that I'd bought it. =0D
The author nailed every aspect of Abe's life and run as president precisely on the head, only with a little added spice with the vampire bit. The story was told (obviously) as though vampires truly exist, and goes on to "explain" that vampires were really the reasoning as to why history shaped out the way it did. It's more so comical than anything, really. It's just so believable, it's almost scary, lol.
Although I so badly don't want to spoil the fun for anyone considering reading it, I will mention Edgar Allan Poe goes on to make an appearance; his timely and unexplained death going on to be "explained". The "CRO" and "Croatoan" carvings left behind on the lost colony of Roanoke when America's first settlers mysteriously disappeared goes on to be "explained" as well.
Why did Lincoln *really* free the slaves? And, why *did* he always have a beard? Read and find out. ;0]
So basically, this is just my way of saying this is a really awesome read. Two thumbs up, five gold stars, and a plethora of brownie points. I friggin' love this book.

OH! Forgot to mention Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is being made into a movie, produced by none other than Tim Burton! It's still in its pre-production stages, so there's a chance it may not ever even be made at all... but it'll still be neat-o!
I am a history buff too and saw it the other day at Broders and walked away for the same reason, I didn't want to buy a book that I would hate. I think that I might go back for it now. Thanks for the tip! Oh and if you like history and vampires....check out The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova! It is one of my favorites!
THAT SOUNDS VERY INTERESTING TESSA, I MIGHT JUST PICK IT UP. ELLIE IF YOU WANT TO SAVE MONEY, YOU CAN ALWAYS GOT TO AMAZON.COM FOR FARE TO CHEAP PRICES. THANKS FOR SHARING TESSA!!!- XOXO Aubrey

I picked it up for $15-something at Walmart, as opposed to the $20-something other places charge. =0]

Also, as it says at the top of the cover, the same author had a previous book that was a New York Times Best Seller; Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It's another good read, as well as it's prequal; Dawn of the Dreadfuls, although it's written by a different author. =0D
I loved Pride and Prejudice and Zombies! And thanks for the tip Aubrey, book stores tend to steal lots of my money <3

I love this book so much!! I checked it out of the library right after I finished Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. My favorite thing about Seth Grahame-Smith is how SEAMLESSLY he blends fiction w/ history/literature. He just works everything in so well!!
This book has been on my wish list for a while, but I'm trying to save $$$. Plus, I have so many books already that I haven't read yet. **sigh** Another one on my wish list is "Breathers" by S.G. Browne. Have you read that one yet?
