Ok, this is a question for the ages: Marilyn Monroe or Bettie Page? Personally, I prefer Bettie Page. She was the "naughty girl" of pinup. She was a fun-loving beach girl and fierce dominatrix all rolled into one! Marilyn Monroe (beautiful icon that she is), seemed more one-dimensional and a little too cookie-cutter for my tastes.
But that's just my opinion. Tell me what you think!

Bettie or Marilyn? Such a tough choice!! Can't decide..but I gotta add that I'm fascinated by Monroe and the life she lived..as well as her death. I saw this TV special about it and it convinced me she was murdered..Yeah as crazy as that sounds..I don't care! There was just something about her..you have to look beyond the surface image. She was so vulnerable and yet powerful at the same time. I just love her! Bettie Page too..I love her innocence even while doing dominatrix and bondage photos. And both had great curvy bodies...It's a tie for me! : )
Since this is Bettie or Marylin discussion I thought this would be appropiate.. I drew it recently..hope you like.

Bettie Paige
Marilyn all the way. Maybe because I am blond I'm not sure. I love her glamour now don't get me wrong I love Bettie but I think I relate more to Marilyn.
UHHHH ME DUH....just kiddin...i'd have to side with Bettie
There have been rumors for years that she was murdered, so who knows? And Bettie did have a way of maintaing a level of innocence even with a ball-gag in her mouth or spanking another woman!

I am definiltely a Marilyn Monroe fan. Since I was a little girl, I have always admired her look. She was the epitome of a lady. Fun and flirty, daring and girly.....she seemed to always keep the fellas on their toes! I also think she played a big role in how women - especially actresses - are treated today. It seems that back then you had to do some pretty scandalous things in order to get a better role. I guess that COULD still be going on today, but my granny tells me that back then, you just kept your mouth shut and did as you were told. I think she was very misunderstood; her whole life, all she ever wanted was for someone to love her and accept her. Her mother was crazy and constantly disapproved of her carreer, and she neevr knew her father. She led an extraordinary life..... Was she murdered? Who knows. I think that will always be a mystery.
I have always been suspicious of her death.... but this makes me even more suspicious! Thanx for the interesting facts!

This is in response of Marilyn possibly being murdered. I'm a criminology student and I took a forensic science course and Marilyn Monroe's death was our case study for Toxicology. It was quite interesting because the professor gave facts that I hadn't heard before and she left it open for us to make our own conclusions. For example, the medication that was on Marilyn's nightstand, there was not enough of it to cause the overdose. Also the type of medication that she supposedly overdosed on would have made her stomach lining a bright yellow when it was ingested and there was no trace of it, but that medication could have been given as a suppository. Lastly, the forensic pathologist had ordered further toxicology screening on her tissue samples and they are the only samples that have ever gone missing in LA's coroner's department.

Sorry to hijack the thread, I just thought it was something I would share with the people that think Marilyn might have been murdered. I thought it was interesting and definitely leads to some suspicion.

I like Bettie Page, myself. It's funny; my mother loves Marilyn Monroe and has pictures of her all over her house; she may even add a Marilyn Monroe portrait tattoo to her sleeve-in-process. Because of that exposure, I've always enjoyed Marilyn, but Bettie was what really clicked for me.

I've noticed in many of the responses (but not all) people seem to like the girl they can relate to the best, and that's certainly the reason I prefer Bettie to Marilyn. Bettie was the first woman I saw that made me feel like a woman who looked like me could be beautiful, which was such an important part of transforming from a teenager with low self-esteem to a confident adult. I also love the playfulness in Bettie's pictures, and the way her smile and poses aren't tainted by shame.

I do wish sometimes that we got to know Bettie as well as we got to know Marilyn. Even if it was part of a persona, we know how Marilyn talked, how she walked, and the Tease-o-rama type footage we have of Bettie just isn't sufficient for that. She had a difficult life too, going through multiple husbands and battling schizophrenia. Even after all this time, she's still shrouded in a bit of mystery, whereas Marilyn, because of the circumstances of her death, has a shade of tragedy to her, for me.
This was posted in another thread, but I thought it would go nicely here. Enjoy!
