Not sure what to do...

I had a photoshoot back in August at a car show with a Washington state photographer. He was in town for a week and we arranged a shoot. He also shot two other girls that week. None of us have received our edited photos from that shoot and we were only promised 3 shots out of all the shots he took. They're all digital photos, none of them were film. The unedited shots, most look good but even so I feel that we should have received our photos by now. I sent him a message a couple weeks ago and he asked me if I chose the photos yet and I told him "yes" and asked if I needed to resend them. No response since. I realize he does do this as a profession but I also think that for the sake of his profession he should honor his commitments. He promised us edited photos in a month and didn't get them to us. Am I being unreasonable or is there something I need to say?

did you get something signed, prior to the shoot, or on that day, regarding those arrangements??

if you didnt:
**you may be out of luck, and you will have to keep contacting him, and TRY to get your photos**
if you did get something signed:
**you may want to contact that photographer and remind them that you had a contract, and you havent gotten your end of the deal... you may also want to consult a (cheep) LAWYER...

If your photographer has there own copy of a contract, then great! (read and sign accordingly)
but if they dont, it is helpful in your behalf to bring a contract, so the deal that the photographer and the Model has is on Paper, and signed by both parties...

Without a contract those are his photos so you might not ever see anything. Not too uncommon unfortunately...
Even if you do have a contract stating he will get you X photos in X amount of time he can still skip out on you and it is up to you to decide if you want to mess around with it. You are not being unreasonable though. August is a really long time ago, even the best professionals who are busy busy busy get your retouched images sooner than that. He is just an unprofessional loser. Your options are like Shop Shop Sue says, be reallllly nice and try to get them or remind him of his contract (if you had one) and go from there.

I'm going to have to look up contracts and save a copy to bring with me for those instances. Because I'm not the only one who lost out...two other models did too.

I'm thinking I'll ask him to send me the unedited shots and find someone who can do good photo editing. I'm feeling too stalkerish emailing for the pictures and really do not want to call him. He's a great photographer and everything but seriously he shouldn't do any more TFP if he isn't willing to give the shots because that was our time he used when we could have gone to someone else.

i doubt it very much whether he will happily release his unedited shots to you to be edited by someone else.

i really agree that he should not be doing TFP if he is not covering his end of the bargain... essentially he sounds like a bit of a creep. he's got however many free shots of 3 lovely ladies, and he didn't have to pay a thing! and unless you signed a release form, he can distribute and use these shots all over the internet and anywhere he sees fit.

He does mostly paid work up in Washington and Oregon and that's what's up on his MM but the TFPs he really doesn't need to be doing if he isn't willing to fulfill his end of the bargain. I wouldn't tell him someone else was editing them...I'd simply ask for the unedited shots. After all neither of us signed a contract. So he really can't object if I do edit them. He took really good shots of us but hasn't given us the images. I'll give it another shot but after that he's got a bad mark.

Move on and beware ,
even legitimates take the money and run.. try to use reputable resorces and get references and feedback from his or her clients ....c

I actually finally got the shots back after one last attempt to contact him. I basically told him that myself and the other model deserved to have the results of our day with him; that he is a good photographer and we would like to show those photos from that day. He finally got back to use asked us which ones we liked and had them edited in two hours. Why it took 4 months to get those shots back when it only took a couple hours to edit them, is beyond me. I will not be working with him again.
