Today is the start of my cutting diet. Goal is to lose about 15lbs in the next month. This will be done by increasing my daily cardio from 30 minutes to an hour along with a more regular gym schedule (usually hit the gym 4-5 days a week but I'm really going to try to make it 5 a week if not the occasional 6 days a week). Diet will be strict but in no way calorie restricted. Intake of beer will be cut back a bit.
Shooting for 2000-2200 calories a day.
50% of calories from protein.
30% of calories from fat.
20% of calories from complex carbs.
A couple factors in the coming month will hurt the progress a touch. Friday the 7th is Winterfest, a beer fest in downtown St. Paul. This upscale beer fest is made up of Minnesota brewers and they serve up mainly winter brews which are usually higher in alcohol (and thus calories) with alcohol percentages at 8% and higher. Saturday the 21st is Bockfest. This beer blast is held on at Schell's Brewery in New Ulm, MN. Nothing like drinking at the 2nd oldest family owned brewery in the country. Standing outside in the middle of February in Minnesota and drinking with a big group of friends and 5000 other people can't be any more fun. This one has really become a yearly tradition for a lot of us with the traditional stop at Happy Joe's pizza afterwards. Last time I went on a cutting diet I dropped 25lbs in 5 weeks while still attending 2 beer fests and only cutting back on drinking a bit so I don't see this being a big problem.
