Man thats sad. I had an epiphany a few months ago. I love cars and I love driving. I heard this guy on the Coast To Coast Show (yeah I know the alien conspiracy radio hour). His name is David Blume and he has this book called Alcohol Can Be A Gas about running cars on moonshine. Not the Ethanol concept of using all the available land to grow corn and then turning it into fuel. He has this grass roots approach where each community uses grass clippings and yard waste to make their own fuel. It's based on community farms and keeping it local to generate local money and create local jobs. This guys is like a farmer genius (saw him on CNN and MSNBC too). I really want to build a still and make my own fuel. Alchy burns cleaner too. Win win situation.
Right on! My biggest fear as a parent right now is what will be left of the planet when my kids get to be my age (45). I'm not a tree hugger, but do do like to hike & mountain bike on occasion. So much crap and garbage in what used to be remote areas. I believe we have messed things up good- but have hope as well. Human nature to be hopeful.
Sounds like your High School Counselor was a dream crusher! Mine was cool. Helped me transfers schools so I could play upright bass in band. My son is a wicked drummer at 14. Sometimes I play the "you should get good grades and think about computer programming as a possible career." That sounds so lame, so I always follow up with, "But remember to practice your drums, maybe you'll be in a huge rock band and make millions!" On the fence or what?
Yeah SIFF kinda stinks. Most bigger festivals are becoming B-Hollywood Promotions Organizations. We did well at the Backseat Film Festival in Philly last March. Indie-Film aint what it used to be. We are lucky the Hot Rod community has been so much behind my film. We do more promotion at car shows than festivals. I don't think most film festival attendees appreciate a good traditional hot rod...ya know?
Seattle is...ummm...rainy right now. I dig it here. I moved from So Cal back in 1989 to see my Dad for the first time since I was 7 ( I was 27 then ). I ended up staying and making music and now films. It's a good place creatively, but there isn't much local love for artists. Strange phenom. I liked Colorado the few times I've been through. Clean air.
