The Proud Gallery (I think) held a small but perfectly formed exhibition way back and Milton's son said he was busy transferring as many rolls of film to digital as he could before they became too damaged. I wonder how many fabulous images of yesterday's stars are beyond repair? I did enjoy the Eve Arnold exhibition at Harrods a few years ago, it was done with a lot of glamour which is sometimes seen as low brow by snooty critics. Have you been tempted by the Franklin Mint or Barbie dolls? Some are divine but pricey! xx
I cant remember the exact title but it was just Milton Greene's images and I expected it to be full of juicy new shots. Unfortunately a rehash of previous greats. It will be superb to see a new collection especially as there are supposedly, many thousands more still in the vaults. It is fabulous talking to you btw. xx
I agree with you about Milton Greene, he did have the advantage of being her personal photographer so could benefit from snapping her at a relaxed best. I do wish his son would release more unseen shots. The last book seemed to be almost a complete reprint of the previous one but with a light sprinkling of new images. I know they want to maximise revenue but still. xx
I remember seeing one particular shot at the 'Most Photographed' exhibition at the NPG a few years ago that was a gift from Beaton to Marilyn as it was her favourite image of herself. There was a handwritten note with it. It struck me as being a wonderfully intimate exchange between two greats of their respective crafts. xx
