"We Are The New Vintage"
Just had the realization that I can NEVER find cute accessories that I like! Well there are some, but there just aren't enough STRIPES in the world!
This got me thinking.
What if I made a business out of creating the things I love? Would this be something beneficial to my life? Would it find a way of supporting itself within 2 years? Since it wouldn't be food based, the permit process should be EASY.
I'm taking this into serious consideration. If I wanted to make a business of clothes, accessories and adorable bits and pieces, how would I go about it?
Start with a name. Read all i can on the boe.ca.gov site for permit specifics. Apply for the permit and then go. It would be a great way to be creative and share what I make with others. I don't expect to make a ton of money but I would expect to keep busy when I'm not working. It would also mean I could create a specific line of pieces that reflect who I am and what I love!
Not to mention wholesale prices for the materials. Getting tired of paying double for things at my local craft store. /shiver
Just a few things I had to put down before I lost them in the gray matter.

Thats a great idea! If you know how to sew and make clothes, then why not make a business out of it. I can say that I would love to see what kind of things you would make! Not to mention if you need a model I would totally be up for modeling your cute clothes/accessories for you. Any way to help.
When I was trying to get a business license for doing nails, i remember looking into the permits and income tax stuff. I am not sure where you are located, but I heard that if you live in a less populated area, the business tax is not as high as it is in the bigger cities. I am not sure about that, I could be wrong. I know that there might be start up costs, and also creating the products, so you might have to create the budget for the endeavor.
Like you said, and also on my disscussion I put up a while ago (which I want to thank you so much for responding to, Your super helpful!!).....going to thrift stores and even some of these online stores/department stores just make it so frustrating. Either the clothing is not pin-up enough or doesnt go with the area/look you are going for, or the thrift store clothing is not as new and durable as it could be if you made it yourself. Thats why I posted that discussion, because it just seems that it might be a better deal to create things on your own, and make it!! Sounds much funner anyways.
Now I am not sure if you are looking to open a shop, rent some space and fill the floor with your stuff or not. But online shops would probably be alot easier especially if you are starting out. You would be saving money not paying rent and utilities but also if you marketed through this site and through others (like etsy, ebay, maybe even twitter or youtube) you could reach people from all over, maybe even people overseas.
Its definitely exciting to think about, but also kinda scary because like with opening any business, its taking a risk. But if you love it, and you arent in it to make a million dollars, then I dont see any drawback to creating your business.
All I know is, where I use to live, we didnt have alot of thrift stores. And the only clothing stores we had were the department chain stores. I would be forced to go online to search for vintage/pin up clothing. So if you could somehow have those people in mind who are limited in a way by their location in finding good pin- up clothing, I think you could succeed.
