In a porn world gone mad for double penetration and anal cream-pies, orifices have become more important than the girl in modern visual portrayals of our sexuality. The beauty, the flirtation, the tension is increasingly stripped away. Instead, a spastic woman pleads to her partner how badly she really wants it, trying to make it all believable by sheer force.
Fine and well for a modern man short on time, but some of us miss the sweet fruit wrapped around the core. The modern pinup girl relies on lessons from the past for her classic sexuality. Painted red lips, high heels, a skirt pulled up to show the lace of her silk stockings. Her parted smile reveals she knows exactly how much she’s giving, using it playfully but not promiscuously. With these simple tools she’s reminded 1940’s soldiers what they were fighting for. She’s given awkward boys hope that a pretty girl might kiss them one day. Men paid homage to her by pinning her picture to the wall, a reminder of a brief encounter or a fantasy about a meeting that never was. She can turn us on by waiting at a bus stop or picking lemons in the orchard. By screwing a light bulb…not “Throbbin’ Hood.”
Dita: Stripteese
Dita Von Teese has dedicated her career to the slow burn of seduction. As a burlesque and fetish model she sparks our desire with tease and curiosity, respectively.
Dita: Stripteese co-created with Sheryl Nields is a set of three flip books showing Dita in some of her most intimate performances. The book purrs as you shuffle the pages and watch her dance. Her most seductive moves are contained within, including her infamous martini bath. In the next she’s dressed in nothing but five million dollars worth of diamonds. The third book shows her aerial version of a classic feather dance, adorned with Dita’s special flair.
Burlesque and the Art of the Teese/Fetish and the Art of the Teese
Burlesque & the Art of the Teese/Fetish & the Art of the Teese combines both of her worlds. I would consider this a photo book, since this the words will come after you’ve flipped through all the photographs of Dita first. The history of burlesque dancing and descriptions of fetishes such as BDSM and tight lacing are general, but solid, introductions to the erotic topics. It is especially nice to have both books combined, letting you explore either of Dita’s ways of making you truly beg for more.
