At 24 years of age I still feel like a little girl. Scared of making any decisions because the one I make might be the wrong one. I have dreams, lofty dream, I want to do pinup hairstyling and makeup, i love the look on peoples faces when they see what ive done to their hair and face, how glamorous they feel, the confidence boost is visable and I cherish that. I want to learn digital computer and handmade crafts, to be an artist in my own creative way. But oh no, says the nay sayer in me. thats not safe. what is safe is going back to school and becoming a nurse like my mom wants me to be, i would make a hot nurse, haaaa. but thats not what i see myself doing. im creative and the working 12 hour shifts dosnt apeal to me. i want to love what i do, but im scared to make a move. so i dont do anything. if you could stop by this blog post and give me your thoughts i would greatly appreciate it. i hope it inspires me to unfreeze my situation. thank you.

Hey darlin,

I so reconize your words, it sounds like me a few years ago. I followed the dream my mother had in mind for me, becoming a full time bussineslady. And I did, I worked 10 to 12 hours a day and always felt that I wasn't in the right place. Four years ago that gave me a burnout and I was told that I could never work again because I would fall right back in the burn out.
At first I felt sad, like my whole life had fallen apart but excually it was the best thing ever happend to me (besides beeing a mom). I always loved the old days, the glamour, the hair, the dresses and I started out doing what I really wanted again, now 5 years later I'm the proud owner of Rockabella's and Rockabella Models. Soon I will even start my own clothingline... So just wait and see what happens, but never give up your dreams or your school. If your dream doesn't work out as you would like it's always good to have something to fall back on... And well your not a little girl, you're just a young lady who is now in the age of making choises. It's all about making the choices you feel good about and than notthing is wrong or bad. It's just as you feel now, and how knows how you will feel in five years from now... Than you'll be 29, finished your school and have the confidence to make the right decisions....

xoxo just keep on going things will get better

hi!!!!! im a single mom and a hairdresser/makeup artist. i went back to school when i was 21 after many months of debating whether to work as a mechanic in a hot rod shop or do hair. i wont say its been an easy ride but i so made the right decision...th great thing about the hairdressing industry is it is so flexible and there are so many opporitunties. for the first few years i worked pt in a salon (commision based pay) and worked another pt job for dependable income. but i love the creativity i have and all the wonderful ppl i met...i finally am gettin to do my dream of pin-up shots with friends this spring and am loving it!!! and being i am looking to move to another state i have the choice of working in a salon, for a distubutor or company, or teaching. so think about it...but it is a wonderful field to be in....and if your not sure, see about working pt as a reception or apprentice( if your state allows it) good luck and best wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Delyssia,

Wow, it's always nice to see someone cute and sophisticated being from Advance, NC! My hometown is actually Asheboro, NC, (where the Zoo is) but there's not much difference really. There are some great junk shops in their little downtown area, though-
I have done some swing dancing and ballroom, but mostly I've played ukulele and done a comedy act with some Winston-Salem and Greensboro cabaret and burlesque groups.

Following your dream is great, and if you can manage to do it, that's greater, but as one who never got or cared enough about practical, real-world skills, I offer the following: I'm the last one to be giving career advice, but you may want to listen to your Mom. I've been an artist for years, and with the recent economic downturn you may as well be an armadillo polisher or an aardvark groomer. Nobody in this country cared much for art anyway, but now it's even worse. I'm currently studying to be a paralegal. It's probably not me, but from what I understand you can make a decent living. I've always liked to read, I sometimes enjoy that aspect of it. Anyway, if I were you, and if you are able (that is, decent in math, chemistry), I would see about being a nurse or maybe something pertaining to the medical profession. There's more and more old, sick men all the time, and we're going to need you!
Ha ha-

I do not mean to discourage you, but you may want to be creative in your spare time, and do the nurse gig for real. You can learn computer skills, crafts, etc. on your own. You are still young, so there's still a lot of time for you to find your path. Godspeed, and keep me posted!

Take care,
Mike

I'll quote Madonna here "no risk, no glory". I believe taking risks of this kind won't kill you. In my case I have the chance to have a family who supports me, and thats a back-up for me to be quite naughty and make a lot of mistakes ^^ --gosh and I have!!! They also want me to be more "standard", but i doubt that doin what you really want will betray their ideas about you. The truth is, at the end of the day they will see you tired but with a big smile on your face and will HAVE TO admit that it was worth it.
In the case you dont have a family or friends to support u, Im afraid it will be a lot harder, but im against givin up under any circumstance.
Anyway, either theres someone "watchin ur back" or not, I think you could take any random part time job and leave the rest of the day for doin what you love. Thats wot Ive done. And believe me, in Argentina, where I live, the economy isnt any better than in the states.
So go ahead!!! In fact, you cud find a job in a hairstylist to sweep the floor!!! So at least you are in!! ^^

Hope u do well --not meanin "takin the right the decision", cuz we can never know which is that right decision before we see the consequences, but I do hope u take a dare on wot u really want.

Cya ^x^

Hey pretty - I've got two babies and two businesses - doing what I love and sometimes it makes me totally nuts but I get to create - if I told you how I got here you would say I am completely insane ;-) (..this may be a regional thing but none of the hairstylists I know are struggling for client right now ;-) So go for it!!!

I'm a nurse...ain't nothing hot about it! After wearing clogs 5 days a week, it's a pain breaking in my pinup pumps! And a few drinks help after squeezing my sore body into a girdle!
Tough work, but the patients make it rewarding, it's practical and it pays the bills...I still develop my photography skills on the side and maybe one day I'll turn it into a career.
Trust yourself to make the right decision for your situation. It's always good to have that little voice in your head driving you to your passion. If you fight it, it goes away and you become a zombie stuck in a miserable routine..I see 'em everyday (shiver)...

I'm like that too, and I really wish I wasn't so uncertain about myself. Try trusting yourself on a few things at a time. When they work out well, you'll start counting on yourself more.
